A new app for travelers to break the language barrier

The Tandem Traveler was developed when founders Lisa Sickman and Dan Sundberg came up short on a search for language learning apps that teach language geared towards travelers.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Last week The Tandem Traveler, a tech startup that teaches foreign language for travelers, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.com to fund development of a mobile travel language app. The program will combine the effectiveness and convenience that language apps like Duolingo and Rosetta Stone provide, but with a focus on words and phrases specifically needed by travelers. The crowdfunding campaign will help to fund the coding of the program, in time for the Summer 2017 travel season.

The Tandem Traveler was developed when founders Lisa Sickman and Dan Sundberg came up short on a search for language learning apps that teach language geared towards travelers. “All the travel specific content was basically just lists of words, and all the mobile language apps taught us things we, frankly, didn’t need for a 2-week trip”, says co-founder Dan Sundberg. “We were frustrated spending countless hours on verb conjugation, when we just wanted to know how to order dinner”, so their solution was to to develop a language program of their own. After months spent designing and testing low-tech versions of the content, they are partnering with a mobile app development company to create iOS and Android versions of the program. With one subscription, users will be able to access all languages within the app, perfect for country-hopping or short-notice travel."

The Kickstarter Campaign launched October 18th and runs until November 17th.
