A World for Travel – Evora Forum’ announces registrations open

The programme includes the best minds in the travel industry. With commitment from top industry associations like the WTTC, UNWTO, ETC, PATA, ATTA, LATA, ECTAA, Tourism Cares, USTOA and many other key organisations from around the world pledging support in what some are already describing as the ‘Davos of tourism’, the event will be crucial in determining how the sector can transform itself.

The inaugural ‘A World for Travel’ Forum 2020 takes place on 5-6 November 2020 in the beautiful medieval town of Evora, a UNESCO Heritage site an hour and 30-minutes’ drive outside of Lisbon, Portugal. Organised by the French media group, Eventiz with the support of VisitPortugal and the Alentejo Region and in partnership with The Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council, ‘A World for Travel’ is set to be the first global, b2b travel event held in person as well as virtually since the onset of COVID-19. Registrations open today and attendance is free to join virtually or in person.

The event is focused on the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and will include lively discussions, difficult debates and a number of practical workshops designed to come up with a blueprint for the urgent transformation of global travel & tourism industry.

Day-one of the event will establish the current problems the industry faces, with day-two designed to find ambitious solutions which embrace a more sustainable future, revamp out of date travel models, and forge new collaborations between the product and consumer for the good of humanity. The final session will reveal the five ‘Spirit of Evora Commitments’ (Urgent Acts) which need to be addressed and to which the delegates will be asked to pledge to undertake and report back on their progress next year.

The five ‘Spirit of Evora Commitments’ will focus on these areas :

  • Environment and Climate Change
  • Risk Mitigation and Health Interconnectivity
  • Social Impact
  • Industry Transformation (including new leadership, new economic model and the shared economy)
  • Technology

Over 120 speakers have been invited to take part including exceptional leaders such as global explorer Michael Horn, who will join renowned economists, CEOs from leading travel companies, OTAs, Ministers of Tourism, local governments and international media commentators. The event will feature both on-site speakers as well as online contributions, to ensure that leading figures in the tourism sector who cannot travel are able to participate.

It should be noted that the organisers are working diligently to establish appropriate protocols for the safety of the attendees, namely to conduct testing upon arrival.

Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism in Portugal commented, “This is a truly a groundbreaking summit for an unprecedented time. The future of the global tourism sector relies on creating partnerships both within and outside of travel. The Evora Forum will be a true think tank opportunity to shape and secure the tourism of tomorrow. We will be having difficult conversations about subjects we never dreamed we would need to tackle in such magnitude. It will be mentally testing, and I hope rewarding as we come together to reimagine the future of our industry which benefits millions of people around the world and without which would be a crushing international loss.”
