American expands travel readiness app acceptance and preflight testing to more Central and South American countries

Customers traveling to Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador from Miami can use VeriFLY app to confirm testing and other required COVID-19 documentation. Preflight COVID-19 testing from LetsGetChecked to be offered for Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

FORT WORTH – American Airlines is further expanding its acceptance of the VeriFLY app, a mobile health wallet that guides customers to understand, track and verify their coronavirus (COVID-19) testing and documentation requirements. Starting Dec. 22, customers traveling on American’s flights from Miami International Airport (MIA) to destinations in Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador can use VeriFLY to help ensure they are meeting the government-required entry guidelines and access an expedited check-in lane.

Also starting Dec. 22, any American Airlines customer traveling to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador will be able to use LetsGetChecked for their required, preflight COVID-19 test. Customers can learn more about LetsGetChecked and all of the airline’s testing partners at aa.com/covid19testing.

“Travel and testing requirements can be complex and using apps such as VeriFLY and offering testing through LetsGetChecked can make the process easier and more straightforward for our customers,” said Julie Rath, Vice President of Customer Experience at American Airlines. “Customers using VeriFLY are saving more than 10 minutes on average during check-in, while also having the peace of mind that they have completed all the necessary requirements that their destination currently has in place. Ordering and taking a test through LetsGetChecked is also a simple and convenient option that has received incredibly positive feedback from our customers.”

Faster check-in and dedicated lanes at MIA for VeriFLY users
When departing MIA, customers using the VeriFLY app are able to use a dedicated and expedited entry lane in the North Terminal. In this lane, they can simply show their approved “pass” validation on the app during check-in. This quick process replaces the manual check of documentation that often take 15 minutes or more.

Customers traveling to Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador can download the VeriFLY app beginning Dec. 18, and use it for travel beginning Dec. 22. Customers traveling to Jamaica and Chile from MIA are currently able use the app and the dedicated lane.

American is working with multiple countries to streamline the process even further and incorporate the VeriFLY app at destination airports so that customers have an expedited verification process on both ends of the travel journey.

Expanding the availability of preflight testing
With the addition of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, American will offer preflight testing to 10 countries and is the only airline to offer it to any destination in the U.S. and its territories that requires testing. Customers traveling on American from any location in the U.S. to Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador can begin ordering the at-home test kits from LetsGetChecked on Dec. 18 and use them for travel beginning Dec. 22, 2020.
