Bahia Principe recognized for sustainability efforts and initiatives

An industry leader in sustainability, Bahia Principe holds 11 Travelife GOLD certifications with recognition for properties in Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica.

MIAMI, FLA. – For the third consecutive year, Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts – a leading all-inclusive hotel chain with properties in Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Spain – was recognized by Travelife, a certification system at the forefront of assessing sustainability performance in the hotel industry, with a GOLD certification for the brand’s Riviera Maya based resort – a renewal of the distinction the four properties received in 2015.

Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal Don Pablo Collection, Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an Don Pablo Collection, Grand Bahia Principe Coba and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum have each achieved renewed status as GOLD hotels by adhering to checklists based on the Travelife Standard for Hotels and Accommodations.

“Bahia Principe continuously strives to be a sustainable company that is conscious and committed to ensuring a positive impact in terms of economic, social and environmental factors which contribute to the destinations our properties are located,” said Isabel Pinero, Marketing and Communications Vice President. “This renewed recognition from the Travelife certification program is a testament to the brand’s dedication to protecting the environment, local culture, heritage and wildlife of the destinations in which we operate, ultimately supporting and respecting the local economy, its residents, children and businesses and our employees.”

To achieve a Travelife GOLD certification, brands must meet a stringent list of criteria which assess sustainability management systems. The principles measure business policies such as quality assurance and health and safety procedures and communicating process including sustainability reports completed within the last 12 months; environmental management standards for managing energy, water, pollution and hazardous substances, reducing solid waste and protecting wildlife; labor and human rights such as encouraging non-discrimination and fair treatment of all; working with and supporting the local community; standards for suppliers including using local companies to provide services whenever possible; and initiatives to encourage hotel guests to support environmental, social and community work.

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts holds a total of 11 Travelife Gold certifications. Last October, seven of the brand’s hotels in Dominican Republic and Jamaica were certified, including Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado, Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar, Grand Bahia Principe Portillo, Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa, Grand Bahia Principe La Romana and Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana in Dominican Republic and Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica.
