Luxury exclusive-use property, Blair Estate, has been awarded Silver status by the Green Tourism board for its commitment to being more environmentally sustainable. Recognised globally as a symbol of sustainable practice, the Green Tourism Silver award is a hallmark of ‘Green Quality’.
One of only a handful of castles across the UK to receive the Green Tourism Silver Award, Blair Estate passed its first ‘Green Check’ by the Green Tourism board, which praised the family-run estate for rolling out a programme of measures to signifcantly reduce its carbon footprint, including energy efficiency improvements, greater use of ‘green' electric heating, tree-planting, and reducing waste. These changes show how one of Scotland’s most historic houses can be made sustainable for the challenges of the 21st century. The Ayrshire-based luxury self-catering castle and estate was also credited for its recent Visit Scotland ‘Taste Our Best’ award for working with local suppliers to source produce from across the West Coast of Scotland. Situated within 220 acres of Ayrshire woodland, Blair Castle and Estate is now working towards achieving Gold status in 2021.
