Bournemouth University organized once again, in partnership with the World Travel Market and TravelDailyNews, the BU Tourism Futures Forum @ WTM 2013 bringing international experts to discuss the hottest trends and developments in the tourism field. Professor Dimitrios Buhalis coordinated the panel and raised critical issues that would be effective the competitiveness of tourism industry in the near future.

 

 Mrs Sofia Panayiotaki of Mediacofss explained that increasingly marketing is about creating stories and sharing whilst PR is changed in social media era.

 

 Mrs Claudia Buscher, Vice Chairman of Historic Hotels of Europe, talked about authenticity towards building meaningful creations.

 

 Mr Jason FreezerHead of Destination Management, VisitEngland discussed about the coordination of destinations towards enhancing their attractiveness and elaborated on the need for responsible tourism.

 

 Mrs Magdalena Osmola, European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) discussed how the structure of the industry has been changed and the need of coordination between all the players.

 

 Mr. Andy Washington of EXPEDIA.com explained that distribution of tourism has become much more sophisticated and increasingly determines the opportunity to appear in different points of sales.

 

 Mrs Claire Steiner, Board Director of The Institute of Travel and Tourism talked about the importance of the human factor in the service delivery and how people make tourism authentic and different.

 

 Professor Dimitrios Buhalis concluding explain that the successful tourism destinations and organizations of the future will coordinate all the assets and people to create differentiated product and services and they will use social media and technology to enhance the experience of their clientele. Coordinating the online reputation will be critical for their brand and their competitiveness.
