TAP Portugal will join Wizz Air in serving a direct link to Lisbon next summer, meaning Budapest will offer a total of 1,644 weekly seats to Portugal during the high season.
This week Budapest Airport has announced another important new route with the confirmation that Portuguese flag carrier, TAP Portugal, will return with a daily service between Budapest and Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon. The Star Alliance carrier will begin the connection on 1 July 2017, operating the 2,478-kilometre sector using its fleet of 132-seat A319s.
TAP Portugal will join Wizz Air in serving a direct link to Lisbon next summer, meaning Budapest will offer a total of 1,644 weekly seats to Portugal during the high season. Returning to the Portuguese market will give TAP Portugal a 56% share of weekly flights, while adding a number of important onward destinations from the airline’s hub including Morocco, Brazil and Cape Verde, as well as making South America more accessible than ever from Hungary’s capital city.
Commenting on the announcement, Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport said: “As the capital, Lisbon is also the largest city of Portugal, the centre of business and culture, making it an ideal destination for leisure and business passengers alike. Continuing to experience exceptional growth, Budapest is expecting to reach a 22% increase in passenger traffic from 2014 to this year-end, with TAP Portugal’s new route to Lisbon further enhancing the airport’s significant development and Hungary’s rapidly expanding tourism.”
