Budapest’s brightest stars shine bright at Annual Awards

From new flights, investments, developments and expansion of services, the brightest stars in Budapest’s ever-expanding universe were celebrated and thanked.

Budapest Airport rewarded its valued business partners with an evening of striking intergalactic-themed celebrations to recognise their alliance and continued support throughout the last 12 months. Hosting its Annual Awards Ceremony, in the impressive Terminal 1 Event Center, the Hungarian gateway bestowed praise on the businesses who had played a part in the airport’s development in 2019.

Taking to the stage at his inaugural awards ceremony at the airport, Dr Rolf Schnitzler, CEO, Budapest Airport took the opportunity to praise all the partners the gateway works so closely with: “I am personally proud to be part of such a close working family here at Budapest. My first few months have clearly shown me the devotion, cooperation and innovation within each department – all of which exemplify the values of the airport and contribute to its ongoing success.”

Best Newcoming Airline & New Belly Cargo Carrier – Shanghai Airlines, China Eastern. Jay Qiu, General Manager: “We came to the Budapest market just six months ago and it’s been a journey of success and growth. Our expectations for our relationship with the airport are full of promise and opportunity. This award shows us our new friends at Budapest feel totally positive about the future we are developing together.”

Best Developing Long-Haul & Belly Cargo Carrier – LOT Polish Airlines. Michal Grochowsi, Cargo and Mail Director Commercial Departmentn: “We’re further building our second home-base at Budapest Airport and are delighted to have launched another new direct long-haul route to Seoul, adding to our successful JFK and Chicago routes. Tourism and business potential here in Budapest is huge. For us tonight’s award is not only recognition for achieving a 47% passenger growth at Budapest in 2019, but also an acknowledgement of our very close business relationship with the airport.”

Largest LCC – Wizz Air. Stephen Jones, EVP and Manging Director “Our aim is always to make our flights attractive to both incoming and outgoing tourists alike. So, it’s with considerable pride that we have taken this award tonight as Hungary’s de facto national carrier. It continues to be a pleasure to be a key player, in partnership with Budapest Airport, in the growing Hungarian tourism, while contributing to the gateway’s sustainability mission by operating lowest emission flights.”

Best Marketing Airline – TAP Air Portugal. Vasco Oliveira Costa, Sales Manager Eastern Europe: “This airport is one of our best marketing platforms.
