GUANACASTE, COSTA RICA – Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas, located within Las Baulas National Park (a sanctuary for Leatherback turtles) in Guanacaste, is a 39-room, eco-friendly boutique hotel that approaches hospitality through a sustainable lens. From its design, to its recently debuted farm-to-table experience, Cala Luna seamlessly blends understated luxury, wellness and social responsibility while offering a true sense of “pura vida.”

Cala Luna recently launched its new Lifestyle suites, eight one-bedroom modern suites tucked within lush tropical gardens featuring organic design with blond teak furnishings, volcanic gray and golden tones, minimalistic spaces and contemporary Costa Rican art. The suites evoke a sense of calmness and intimacy with amenities including double walk-in showers, private patio terrace with garden views and architecture and lighting that echo the contours of the human body.

Showcasing the works of local artists in its suites is just one way in which Cala Luna integrates the community. The hotel also collaborates with staff, who mainly come from a farming background, in purchasing produce grown sustainably in their homes for guest consumption. Aside from the organic menu offered in its kitchen, Cala Luna guests also have the chance to partake in an interactive farm-to-table experience at the hotel’s nearby farm La Senda. Dinner at La Senda allows guests to experience the origins of their meal first-hand with a farm tour (including tips about water conservation and organic fertilizers), engage with fellow travelers in an intimate family-style setting, and taste Chef’s choice dishes from Cala Luna’s head Chef Hugo Gonzalez, who chooses the daily menu based on seasonality. La Senda is also home to the world’s largest labyrinth, built around two energy centers. Prior to dinner, guests are encouraged to walk about the labyrinth, embarking in a meditative journey that also feeds the soul.

“These activities allow the hotel to fuse local culture with the guest experience and create memorable moments that set Cala Luna apart. Our goal is to engage guests with nature and sustainability from the moment they step onto the property and instill a greater sense of responsibility in them by the time they leave. Today, travelers are seeking options with more local flavor and eco-friendly practices that also offer a high standard of hospitality. We’ve proven that sustainability can be luxurious and are proud to be part of this consumer shift,” said General Manager, Federico Pilurzu.

Cala Luna offers a wide range of amenities from private two and three- bedroom villas, to an outdoor spa, free Yoga and fitness lessons, complimentary bicycles to explore the area and sunset Happy Hours on the beach.
