It was first held in 1886 and has since then grown to become a major part of the Victorian Spring Carnival.
The Caulfield Stakes is a group one race, which is run over a distance of 2,000 metres at the Caulfield during Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne. It is also known as Neds Stake and is registered as the Ladbrokes Stakes for sponsorship reasons. This race is also a part of a huge Caulfield Guineas Day Card run in October and features 10 races. It was first held in 1886 and has since then grown to become a major part of the Victorian Spring Carnival.
This race is usually only two weeks prior to Australia’s greatest weight for age event, the Cox Plate, and applies the same distance and conditions. This is why it is very a popular lead-up race for the Cox Plate and it boasts a high-quality field.
Among the winners of this race include Wakeful 1902. Eurhythmic 1920, 1921 and 1922, Chatham 1933, Ajax 1938, Bernborough 1946, Rising Fast 1954, Gunsynd 1972, Kingston Town 1981 and 1982, Might and Power 1998, Northerly 2001, So You Think 2010 and Winx in 2016.
To further explain the connections between these races, nine horses have won both races in over ten occasions. These horses are Tranquil Star 1942, Rising Fast 1954, Kingston Town 1981 and 1982, Bonecrusher 1986, Might and Power 1998, Northerly 2001, So You Think 2010, Ocean Park 2012 and Winx in 2016.

The Caulfield Stakes attracts most of the genuine middle distance stars in 2000 meters and weight for age conditions. However, as mentioned above, most of these racers are usually focused on the Cox Plate but use Caulfield stakes day as an important final preparatory race. The Caulfield stakes day would take place on Saturday, the 10th of October, 2020. The other main events to be held on this day are:

The official closing time for nominations is 12 PM on Monday 5th of October 2020. The race shall be run at weight for age as stated earlier. The final weights will be declared on Monday the 5th of October as well. All acceptances would be declared before 9:30 on Wednesday, 7th of October 2020. They will be published in their Field section.
The riders will be announced by 1 PM on Wednesday, the 7th of October, 2020. The official Stakes jockeys will then be published in their Field sections too. It is important to note that the scratching will be closing by 7:30 AM on Saturday, 10th 2020. However, the final guide will be made available a week prior to the race.

You can access the Caulfield Racecourse by car which is about 15 minutes from Melbourne CBD, or by train at Frankston, Dandenong, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines which operate regularly from Flinders street and finally by tram, number 3 from the city along Swanston Street.
