CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Charlottesville welcomed its newest hotel last week at the grand opening of The Draftsman, Autograph Collection at 1106 West Main Street. The property developer, Carr Companies, and the hotel management company, Donohoe Hospitality Services, hosted the ribbon cutting event attended by local business representatives, city government and project stakeholders.

Delegate David Toscano spoke at the ribbon cutting, “The Draftsman is a terrific addition to the West Main Street corridor. Not only will it generate more economic activity and tourist traffic in the area, it makes a strong statement about urban design and streetscape, thereby enhancing the visual experience of the community and visitors alike.” The new hotel designed by BBGM Architects and built by Donohoe Construction, enlivens this neighborhood with 11 stories, 150 guest rooms, over 2,300 square feet of dedicated event space, a penthouse fitness center, and a 4,000 square foot onsite farm-to-table restaurant, Renewal.

The Draftsman, named after three visionary Virginian’s (Thomas Jefferson, James Madison & James Monroe) has an architecture unique to Autograph Collection properties that has been artfully curated by Dash Design to create a contemporary feel with nods to our founding fathers and notably famous Virginians and Cvillians. Tours of the property featured details such as the lobby focal point Jefferson alcove-style bed, drafting table style guest room desks, and sliding rural Virginia barn doors in guest rooms and public spaces. To add to the experience, The Draftsman’s resident pet ambassador and therapy dog-in-training, Bulleit, was on hand to greet guests and create a memorable engagement with Charlottesville. “Bulleit was a hit tonight,” said General Manager, JP Roberts. “He livens up any party. We’re pleased with the event turnout, and our team did a wonderful job showing off this one-of-a-kind boutique hotel.”

Attendees at The Draftsman’s grand opening enjoyed catering by Renewal, the hotel’s signature cocktail – The Draftsman – in the lobby library, and live music from Melody Supreme Analogue Disc Jockeys throughout the 4th floor event space. “The Draftsman has majestic guest room vistas, proximity to local activities and events, food and drink offerings that capture the rich diversity of Charlottesville, and the warmth of Bulleit, their ‘hotel ambassador’,” said Pat Fleshman Burnette, Vice President of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce. “They are clearly making a difference now and will surely continue to do so in the future.”

With 11 stories, 2300 sq. ft. of meeting space and over 150 rooms, this vibrant upscale boutique hotel is as artful as it is intelligent. The Draftsman is pet-friendly and resides in the heart of downtown Charlottesville next to the UVA Medical Center. The evocative spirit of Virginia’s original voices and visions of 3 Presidents – Madison, Monroe and most notably, the profound ingenuity of Thomas Jefferson – are presented in engaging ways with references to the past, present and future of this storied, historic region.
