Cobalt Air selects Sabre for passenger reservations technology

Sabre system will support growth, improve passenger experience.

LARNACA, CYPRUS and SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS – Cyprus' fastest-growing airline, Cobalt Air, has successfully completed a major I.T. implementation to Sabre's passenger reservations system. The technology is set to help generate a substantial increase in additional revenues for the airline and offer new experiences to travelers.

The introduction of the new system is part of the airline's overarching vision to achieve solid long-term growth, profitability and a top-quality service for its passengers. The airline intends to achieve these goals through applying innovative and performance-enhancing technology – and now all of Cobalt's reservations, and critical airline operations have been transitioned to Sabre.

"Cyprus is an exciting country for aviation, experiencing a 15 percent year-over-year growth in demand for travel, and is ideally positioned between three continents," said Andrew Madar, CEO at Cobalt Air. "By employing Sabre's technology to manage our central reservations, Cobalt is now well-positioned to tap into this growth and provide a greater range of products and services to meet an increasing demand.  We are a young and ambitious airline that is now equipped to compete with some of the largest carriers in Europe and the Middle East, which we expect to increase our market share and lead to an exciting future."

Cobalt's successful expansion plans are expected to see it become the country's largest airline by the summer of 2018. Founded only in 2015, the airline already flies to 20 destinations across 12 countries in Europe and the Middle East. Its new technology system is expected to generate additional revenue through an increased sale of fares and new ancillary services, and by attracting new customers through a superior flight experience.

"Cobalt is a fast-growing airline in a country that welcomes around 4.5 million travelers each year," said Dino Gelmetti, vice president EMEA, Airline Solutions, Sabre. "It now needs a robust, intelligent and customer-centric IT system that can take it to its next stage of growth. Sabre's technology will help the airline meet each pillar of its vision – improving customer experience, facilitating growth, maximizing profits, enhancing safety and spearheading innovation. Airlines using our passenger reservations technology can expect to see an increase in profits, which enables them to invest in their growth and compete with global rivals."

More than 225 airlines currently use Sabre's technology to decrease operational costs, increase profit and transform the way they serve travelers – including many of the world's largest carriers.
