David Harris appointed Hotel Manager of The Langley, opening late 2018

Bringing over 18 years’ experience within the hospitality industry to his role at The Langley, Harris has held several senior positions over his dynamic career.

LONDON – The Langley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Buckinghamshire announced the appointment of David Harris as hotel manager. Opening late 2018, The Langley is an exquisite 41-room boutique hotel and spa, owned and managed by City & Country Hotels, nestled within 500 acres of idyllic Buckinghamshire countryside. Following a meticulous restoration, the former hunting lodge of the third Duke of Marlborough will create an outstanding destination complete with a world-class spa and collection of epicurean experiences, just a 40-minute drive from central London.

Bringing over 18 years’ experience within the hospitality industry to his role at The Langley, Harris has held several senior positions over his dynamic career. Harris previously held the position of operations manager at the Ashford International Hotel, part of The Q Hotels Group. During his time there, he devised and implemented a number of creative strategies that successfully transformed the business mix of the hotel, creating a winning formula that improved service, sales and guest satisfaction.

Prior to this, Harris held his first general manager position at The Marquis at Alkham where he was instrumental in its achievement of the AA Inspectors’ Choice in Britain & Ireland 2015/16 as well as its inclusion in the 2016 editions of the Michelin Guide and The Good Hotel Guide. Before this, Harris was F&B manager at Eastwell Manor, Hotel & Spa (which has since been acquired by Champneys) where he oversaw a number of large-scale events and developed new procedures with a focus on maintaining its AA Four Red Star status.

In his role at The Langley, Harris will lead a team of approximately 100 associates. His immediate responsibilities include overseeing the completion of the build and restoration process, liaising with key parties including the contractors, designers and the owner to ensure a smooth handover. Harris will manage the pre-launch budget, recruitment and ensure that all suppliers and licensing requirements are in place by the time of launch. In addition, he will work closely with The Luxury Collection in order to champion its superior brand standards and commitment to high-quality service. As part of his role at The Langley, he aims to create a service culture and environment that will rival some of the finest hotels in the country. By showcasing his diligence and passion through his work, he hopes to inspire the team to reach new heights, and in doing so, firmly position The Langley as a market leader in the luxury sector.

On his appointment, Harris said: “I am very excited to join the team at The Langley ahead of its anticipated launch. It’s an incredible heritage project to be involved in and it’s been fantastic to be on site to watch its transformation. The meticulous restoration and design process is testament to the scale and ambition we have for The Langley and we are committed to offering an exceptional experience with service second-to-none when we open our doors to guests later this year.

Harris added: “The Langley will create an elegant destination for both locals and international guests alike, with something for everyone, from the world-class spa and Matt Roberts personal training facility, to its unsurpassable cigar collection and gourmet dining experiences.”

Commenting on the appointment, Khalid Affara, MD of City & Country Hotels, said: “I am delighted to welcome David to the team at The Langley. With his extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of every aspect of the UK hospitality industry, I am confident that he will play a critical role in the opening of The Langley. Over his career he has demonstrated strong leadership skills and a determination to succeed through development of his acute business acumen and creative thinking, and I have no doubt that he will bring this to The Langley along with his passion for delivering a unique guest experience.”

In his leisure time, Harris likes to challenge himself through extreme endurance races and triathlons and has completed the renowned Ironman as well as more recently, the London to Brighton 100k Ultra.
