The doors to the 33rd rendition of the original Icehotel in Swedish Lapland opened on Friday 16th December, as Discover the World shares the first images of the new hotel today.

The new winter hotel is an ephemeral art exhibition made entirely of snow and ice from Torne River, which opens each winter in December before melting back into the Torne River come spring.

Together with Icehotel's building and ice production team, artists from all over the world have created twelve art suites in the winter Icehotel #33 as well as well as one deluxe suite in Icehotel 365, the year round hotel and there is a new design for the ceremony hall for intimate celebrations which is called Embrace and has been designed by Wouter Biegelaar, Netherlands, and Viktor Tsarski from Bulgaria.

During the last intense weeks of building, 24 artists from around the world (including one British designer) together with the hotel's construction team and Creative Director Luca Roncoroni, have created this year's winter hotel and all of its art.

Ice Domes, Japanese Garden and Supersized Mushrooms
This winter guests will be able to sleep in an ice dome, a Japanese garden, under supersized mushrooms, among flowers and much more as the new designs are unveiled.

“Every year I’m amazed of what this incredible team can achieve; talented international artists, flanked by a team of ice-professionals, can really create magic. Welcome to Icehotel 33!” says Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director Icehotel.

The winter hotel will be open until April 2022. Discover the World is offering a three night break from £504 per person this winter with all clients able to take advantage of a comprehensive flexibility promise. The price includes two nights warm accommodation and one night sleeping on ice in an Ice Room as well as breakfast each day. Flights extra. Upgrade to an ice suite from £586 for the 3 night stay. A whole range of holidays are offers including combining staying at the hotel with Abisko National Park as well as Stockholm.

The construction process begins in the spring when blocks of ice are harvested from the mighty Torne River and stored in an ice warehouse in Jukkasjärvi, later to be used to create beautiful art and architecture. This year artists from Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Chile, Netherlands, Singapore, France, Japan, Canada, Bulgaria, Mongolia and Slovakia have carefully been selected by Icehotel to create a unique world of art that our guests can enjoy.

Icehotel 365
Icehotel 33 and all its art and rooms will be available to experience during the coming winter season, before the hotel melts to return to the river during the spring. What remains is the permanent part of the hotel, Icehotel 365, with an Icebar, a movie theatre and an exhibition made of ice and snow, as well as another nine art suites and eight deluxe suites and one design suite, one of which is new for the season.
