Do a world sporting tour

In this post, we’ll take a look at just a select few of these great sporting events to add to your travel bucket list.

If you have a love of both travel and sport in general, then these two passions really go hand in hand. There’s always a major sporting event taking place somewhere around the world, and sometimes having a genuine excuse to travel to a particular city or country is a great incentive to book, pack and experience new adventures.

In this post, we’ll take a look at just a select few of these great sporting events to add to your travel bucket list.

Rugby World Cup
Rugby Union is one of the most popular sports on the globe. Every 4 years all the best teams in the world come together to compete for the sport’s most coveted trophy in the Rugby World Cup. The event takes place in a different city and country each time it’s on, and if you’re there, you’re going to be in for one hell of a party.

With dozens of high-quality games played at a variety of venues over a number of weeks, you’ll never get bored if you love the rugby. In between matches, it’ll be time to get out and explore your surroundings, wherever the event is held at the time. In 2019 it’s in Japan, so you’ll be in for a cultural explosion if you get to this year’s Rugby World Cup in September.

Australia’s Melbourne Cup Horse Race
It’s the only horse race – in fact, it’s the only sporting event – that brings an entire nation to a standstill.

The annual running of the Melbourne Cup takes place on the first Tuesday in November and the best seat in the house to watch the Melbourne Cup 2019 horses go round is trackside at Flemington racecourse in Melbourne.

The Melbourne Cup is actually a week-long party. If you travel to Melbourne for it, you’ll be in for a feast of entertainment, nightlife, parties, awesome food and loads of champagne.

There is lots to see and do in this iconic city, so visit Melbourne for the Cup Carnival and explore all the wonders the city has to offer visitors and locals alike.

Wimbledon Tennis Championships
It’s mid-summer in the heart of London, one of the planet’s most visited and historic cities. The Wimbledon Tennis Championships are on, so what better time of the year to take in some sport and explore such a popular part of the world at the same time.

The event has been running since way back in 1877 and many people consider the championships and the All England Club in Wimbledon to be the unofficial and sentimental home of world tennis.

These days it’s one of the rare major tennis events to still take place on grass, a surface which always inspires some memorable performances and matches.

If you love tennis, you’ll enjoy being courtside to watch the best in the world, while in between matches taking in the sights of one of Europe’s best cities.

ICC Cricket World Cup
This is another global sporting event that takes place every 4 years in a different city and country. While not a great deal of countries across the globe play cricket to an international standard, it’s still a major sporting spectacle that’s super popular.

Major countries the sport and tournament are played in include Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, the West Indies and Pakistan, although other countries also compete in the World Cup, giving it a truly international flavour.

There are several forms of cricket, but the ICC Cricket World Cup features and focuses on One Day Internationals, making for very exciting gameplay and a guaranteed result.

Wherever it happens to be hosted, you’ll experience a new culture and new adventures, along with watching the best cricketers in the world in action.

The NFL Super Bowl
Although American Football or Gridiron is mostly only mega-popular in the United States, people tune in from all over the world to watch the Super Bowl on TV. What would be even better would be to take a trip to the USA and watch it live.

There seriously wouldn’t be many sporting events more exciting and exhilarating to be a part of than this one.

It’ll be held in different US cities each year, so definitely exciting times and adventure to be had for any sport’s traveller.
