Dutch go to Greece for sun, sea and beaches

The climate of Greece is among the best rated in the world and is loved by Dutch people.

The Dutch like to go to Greece on vacation for the sun, sea and beaches. Research from Griekenland.net among more than 1,000 visitors shows that 28% opts Greece for sun, sea and their beaches in 2020. They value Greek hospitality and appreciate good food. Enjoyment on a terrace with a drink is also important. More than 14% of the respondents chose this hospitality and 13% prefers the Greek cuisine.

The Dutch love a boulevard
The Dutch love a boulevard at their holiday destination. Strolling along shops and time to relax on a terrace at the sea with a glass of ouzo, a cocktail or a Greek beer. They prefer the Greek cuisine in taverns and restaurants in stead of international dishes. Not only traditional Greek dishes such as moussaka or stifado, but Dutch people are increasingly discovering the modern Greek cuisine with 'mezzedes'. It’s a trend to share dishes with each other and not traditionally choose a starter and main course. In this way they taste much more Greek dishes and give a meal more satisfaction.

Beach holidays Greece
The climate of Greece is among the best rated in the world and is loved by Dutch people. They look forward to the long sunny days in the summer and the balmy summer evenings. Swimming in the sea, time for each other and relaxing on the beach. Greek culture also continues to score high among the Dutch during their holidays. Not only the archaeological sights, such as the Acropolis, but also traditional villages, festivals and activities are gaining popularity. Their goal is to come closer to locals for more ‘real’ experience.
