ECTAA, the European Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators, has been invited to hold its semi-annual meeting in the beautiful capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, from 25-28 May. This is the first time in its 55 years existence that ECTAA meets in Slovenia. A delegation of 70 CEOs and Presidents of travel agents and travel agents’ associations will come to Ljubljana to discuss industry and EU policy developments impacting on the travel trade. This is also an opportunity for the 70-strong delegation to visit Slovenia, with sightseeing tours scheduled to the Old Town of Ljubljana and its castle, the Postojna cave, the Bled Alpine lake area and the medieval town of Piran.

This semi-annual meeting in Slovenia is part of an agreement signed between ECTAA and the Slovenian Tourist Board to help raise awareness and promote Slovenia through the network of travel agents and tour operators across Europe, highlighting the diversity of its natural resources and cultural heritage as well as the diversity of travel and tourism products on offer, ranging from green and eco-tourism, to health and wellness tourism and active holidays. ECTAA pledges to help increase inbound tourism through participation in different promotion and marketing campaigns, targeting in particular specific source markets in Europe. Among other, ECTAA is promoting the upcoming 19th Slovenian Incoming Workshop 2016 scheduled from 9-11 June 2016 in Terme Catez.

The ‘Preferred Destination’ agreement was officially signed in May 2015 by the Director of Slovenian Tourist Board, as well as the President of ECTAA. The agreement was implemented as from January 2016.

Said Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, Maja Pak: “We are glad that the renowned European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association (ECTAA) selected our country for such an important meeting as it is General Assembly meeting. We are also excited about the title of the Preferred Destination of the Year 2016, which contributes to the positioning of Slovenia as a visible European tourist destination also among tourism business professionals.”

Said President of ECTAA, Lars Thykier: “We are very proud to work with such a strong partner as the Slovenian Tourist Board. We expect that the agreement will serve as a bridgehead for expanding awareness of Slovenia among the travel agents Community."

Added ECTAA President elect, Ms. Merike Hallik: “We are confident that the Preferred Destination agreement will bring mutual benefits for the two parties and will foster strong relations between Slovenia incoming agents and our travel agents and tour operator members.”
