Although family holidays can result in memories that will last a lifetime, juggling an early-morning flight with tired or over-excited children can result in stress for even the calmest of parents. To help parents plan ahead for the upcoming May half-term holidays, Airport Parking & Hotels (APH) has compared the family-friendly offerings at six airport hotels, to ensure productive families are well-rested and prepared ahead of a morning flight.

Stay Minutes Away from Check-In
For the ultimate convenience of an on-airport hotel, four of the airport hotels compared are located just minutes away from the check-in desks, including Birmingham Airport’s four-star Novotel, which is the airport’s closest hotel to the terminals. Two of the hotels researched are located off-airport: Holiday Inn Gatwick – Worth, which is a 12-minute drive away from the airport, and Glasgow Airport’s Normandy Hotel, which provides guests with a complimentary five-minute shuttle transfer to the airport.
Family Rooms Available
Family rooms are offered at four of the hotels researched, including the Family Four Room at Hilton London Gatwick Airport, which includes one double bed and two single beds or one double bed and bunk beds. For families with a baby, travel cots are provided free-of-charge at all of the airport hotels researched and furthermore, at Glasgow Airport, those aged under 17-years-old can stay for free at Holiday Inn when sharing a room with their parents. Child-friendly room amenities to help ensure a peaceful night’s sleep include handy blackout curtains at three locations, including at Holiday Inn Gatwick – Worth, and sound-proofed windows at Birmingham Airport’s Novotel.
When a Kids Menu is a Must
Filling up on a large meal before travelling can help prevent grumbling stomachs en route and fortunately all six of the hotels researched offer a breakfast service and highchairs for little guests. The price of a breakfast varies from a thrifty £5.50 per person at Ibis Birmingham Airport to £18.95 per person at Hilton London Gatwick Airport, but children aged under 13-years-old can enjoy a free breakfast or two-course evening meal at Gatwick’s Holiday Inn when dining with an adult. Additionally, all six of the hotels researched include a restaurant that offers a menu with dedicated meals for children, including mini pizzas at Holiday Inn Gatwick – Worth and macaroni cheese at Glasgow Airport’s Normandy Hotel.
Free Wi-Fi for all the Family’s Gadgets
Distracting energetic or grizzly children for hours on a plane can be tricky at the best of times, so parents can make the most of the free Wi-Fi provided at all six hotels to download games or episodes of TV favourites. Young travellers at Birmingham Airport’s Novotel will also be pleased to find a small gift on their arrival at the hotel plus a children’s entertainment and play area in the hotel lobby.
