Five destinations where you can go sightseeing from your sailboat

From Sicily to Crete and down to the Whitsundays in Australia, these locations are perfect to sail and take in natural wonders.

Life is all about finding the perfect balance. Between work and play. Between family and friends. Between leisure time and personal development and growth.

It can be hard to strike a balance, but it is the key to a happy, fruitful and productive life.

And we all need leisure time. Time to unwind, rest and rejuvenate from the busy pace of modern life.

One great way to relax whilst experiencing the delights of nature is to buy a yacht and go sightseeing around the world.

In this helpful blog, we’ll share some top destinations where you can go sightseeing from your sailboat.

Visit Sicily
The Italian island of Sicily is the largest in the Mediterranean Sea. You can dock and visit the island and take in the local sights and tastes. A great sailing destination near Sicily is the island of Vulcano. You’ll want an early start from the port of Santa Maria Maggiore, which is in Milazzo. A three-hour cruisy sail will see you reach Vulcano. It’s a good idea to anchor on the south coast, which provides decent shelter from the wind. Mulberry Beach is a must-see, with crystal clear, warm water which is perfect for a dip. From Mulberry Beach, you can see the Saracen coast and Mount Etna which are breathtaking sites to behold.

Sail Around Crete
Crete is the largest and most populated Greek Island, nestled also in the Mediterranean. It is an amazing sightseeing location and a must for any sailing enthusiast. Some must-see sights are the gorgeous Balos Lagoon at the North-West end of Crete. Also worth checking out is Gramvousa Island, also known as The Pirate Island (don’t worry, there are no actual pirates).  Both these locations are brilliant to take in.

The Whitsundays
Moving a bit further south now, the next beautiful sailing location you must see is The Whitsundays. These 74 islands are located off of the state of Queensland in Australia. Make sure you pack a snorkel kit because the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most breathtaking natural wonders of the world. Hill Inlet is another must-see location, as is Whitehaven Beach. With consistently warm temperatures, you can visit The Whitsundays all year round and bask in the glory and warmth of these amazing locations. The locals are laid-back and friendly as well, so you can make yourself at home.

Thailand’s South
Another amazing sailing sightseeing destination is the southern areas of Thailand. Some locations you need to visit are Phuket, Kho Phangan, and Kho Samui. These are destinations favoured by young travellers, so expect some rowdiness and parties. A full moon party is an event you won’t want to miss. However, these beaches are amazing and pristine, coupled with fresh local cuisine and drinks – you’ll have a blast while seeing these sights.

South Georgia Island – Southern Ocean
Our last location to mention is South Georgia Island in the Southern Ocean. Pack warm clothes, because this location can get on the chilly side due to its proximity to Antarctica. However, in terms of wildlife sightseeing, it is the best destination in the world. You will see penguins, rare sea birds such as albatross, as well as fur seals. It’s not unheard of to see all kinds of dolphins and whales, including blue whales, from this location.

Conclusion
In this article, we’ve shared five destinations where you can go sightseeing from your sailboat.

From Sicily to Crete and down to the Whitsundays in Australia, these locations are perfect to sail and take in natural wonders.

Don’t forget Thailand, especially the islands to the south. Finally, South Georgia Island in the Southern Ocean is a must-visit to see amazing wildlife.
