Four fascinating places to visit in Southern California

California is one of the most beautiful states you could hope to visit. With nearly 40 million people, it is the most populous state in the country.

Being the third largest, there are also endless must-see destinations. It is truly a traveler's paradise.

But with so many options, how are you supposed to narrow it down? To help you decide, we created a list of the top five places to visit in southern California. Check out this list and find inspiration for your next trip.

Best places to visit in Southern California
We took the time to review the top SoCal attractions. Like the As We Travel Blog pointed out, there is so much more to do than Disneyland.

1. Death Valley National Park
It might come off as odd that a place with 'death' in the name would be a nice place to go in Southern California. However, you should give this desert paradise a try.

Located in between California and Nevada, Desert Valley is known for its hot weather and dreamworld landscapes. The Titus Canyon and the mysterious sailing stones are top attractions.

The salt flats at the Badwater Basin have the distinction of being the lowest place in North America.

2. La Jolla
If you want to have a nice night on the town, but want to get away from the madness and mayhem that is Los Angeles, we present La Jolla.

This sleepy, yet hip beach town is one of our favorites places to visit in Southern California. The town is built right on the coast and boasts several idyllic beaches.

If you are into surfing, you will have no problem identifying the local hotspots. If not, that's fine. There are plenty of pretty viewpoints and celebrated eateries to choose from.

3. Big Bear Lake
This is one of the top places to see in Southern California because of its wide variety of attractions and things to do.

Big Bear Lake, situated in the San Bernardino National Forest, provides fun year around for the whole family. The lake is great for fishing and there are a number of places to practice mountain sports.

This is a must-see for adventure traveling. You won't get tired of all the hiking, boating, skiing, and other surprises you'll find here.

4. Sequoia National Forest
This is one of the greatest natural wonders in the world, let alone the United States. Sequoia Nationa Forest continues to be one of the top Southern California attractions, and with good reason.

The giant Sequoia trees can reach over 300 feet in height. They are slightly shorter than the redwoods but have a greater overall mass.
