Frankfurt Airport serves record number of over 220,000 passengers on a single day

New historic daily record achieved for Frankfurt Airport – 200,000 passenger mark exceeded for the 73rd time in 2017.

On September 15, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) exceeded the mark of 220,000 passengers on a single day for the first time in its history.

Commenting on the new passenger record, Fraport’s Executive Director Operations, Anke Giesen, said: “It was only five years ago that we passed the 200,000 passenger mark for the first time. Now with a new record of more than 220,000 passengers served on a single day, we have reached a new dimension. We owe our ongoing growth to the excellent performance of all airport employees as well as the superb cooperation with our partners and airlines. We thank all our passengers for the trust they place in us, as well as our airline partners and all our employees.”

Passenger traffic has hit or exceeded the 200,000 mark on 73 days so far in 2017, while in 2016 this figure was reached on only 37 days. The 200,000 passenger mark was achieved for the first time in 2012.

“Our excellent infrastructure and our continuous optimization efforts and quality enhancements here at Frankfurt Airport provide the prerequisite for successful operations at Germany’s most important international aviation hub. Thanks to our airline customers, particularly the Lufthansa Group, and the global connections they provide, no other airport in the world offers better hub connectivity than FRA. By building the new Terminal 3, we are equipping ourselves for future growth,” concluded COO Giesen.

The recent 2016 Connectivity Report of Airports Council International (ACI) ranks FRA in first place for hub connectivity. In the current 2016/17 summer schedule, FRA is served by 96 airlines flying to 299 destinations in 97 countries. As far as passenger satisfaction is concerned, FRA is in tenth place worldwide according to Skytrax rankings. The OAG Punctuality League places FRA in third place among the major airports in Europe for punctuality.

With 139 intercontinental destinations, almost half of all destinations are located outside Europe, which underscores Frankfurt’s position as a leading hub in the global air transportation system. Among European airports, Frankfurt Airport ranks in first place for cargo and third place for passenger traffic.
