G Adventures and Hostelworld launch ‘Roamie-ing Reporter’ initiative

Irish freelancer, Claire Scott, as ‘Roamie-ing Reporter’

Claire Scott appointed as the on-the-ground-reporter for new youth travel style.

With the first departures of the new Roamies collection now on the road and taking in the best hostels and adventure experiences across Europe, G Adventures and Hostelworld are delighted to welcome Irish freelancer, Claire Scott, as their first ‘Roamie-ing Reporter’. The new initiative will see the Roamie-ing Reporter act as the ‘boots on the ground’ for the Roamies travel style, travelling the world throughout 2022, sourcing stories, exploring alongside fellow Roamies, visiting the creme-de-la-creme of the hostel world, and providing training and content for G Adventures’ agent community.

Like many young travellers, following the pandemic Ireland-based Scott, who was awarded Young Journalist of the Year in 2020 at Ireland’s National Journalism Awards, decided to take a break from her journalism career and follow her passion for adventure, embarking on a 12-month sabbatical. Her role as the Roamie-ing Reporter will see her join five trips throughout the year and taking her to Europe, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico and Southeast Asia.

“We’re so excited to launch the Roamie-ing Reporter initiative now that the first Roamies adventures are out on the road. Claire was an obvious choice for us as she really understands the Roamies brand, being an avid traveller herself. She is also especially passionate about solo female travel, a growing market we are seeing reflected in our Roamies bookings.

“With Roamies focused on social connection, we felt having someone on the ground meeting our travellers, adventuring alongside them and experiencing the incredible hand-picked hostels would bring incredible value to G Adventures, our customers, and our media and agent partners,” said Brian Young, managing director at G Adventures.

The Roamie-ing Reporter initiative will include some of the best experiences from across the Roamies portfolio, from abseiling down waterfalls and sampling craft beer in Costa Rica, riding gondolas and hiking coastal trails in Europe, sipping mezcal and swimming in the crystal clear waters of the cenotes in Mexico, sandboarding and tucking into fresh seafood on the beach in Peru, sleeping in bamboo rooms overlooking the mountains and soaking in bizarre egg-shaped mud pools in Vietnam.

“Partnering with G Adventures and Hostelworld as the Roamie-ing Reporter is a dream come true and I’m so excited to explore lots of new places and discover some real hostel gems. They’ve done a fantastic job of selecting interesting, fun accommodation, all with their own USPs. My biggest dream has always been to see the world and I’m excited for a new challenge and to experience different places, cultures and people, which is one of the big reasons I was drawn to the Roamies trips. I’m looking forward to tracking down stories, finding the best hostels and sharing fun anecdotes from the road,” said Scott.

“I admire women who travel solo as it can be daunting to head off to a new place alone. I wanted to prove to myself that I could take the leap and explore the world in this way, and the Roamies collection is the perfect way to do it, balancing solo travel with the safety of a group trip, with some amazing backpacker-style vibes thrown in, and opportunities to meet new people along the way,” Scott continued.

Focused on fostering community and camaraderie among young travellers aged 18 to 35, while exploring the most iconic destinations and hottest hostels, Roamies was developed by G Adventures and Hostelworld to harness the free-spirited nature of adventure travel and combine it with the social side of hostels. The collaboration offers 38 itineraries across 15 countries, staying in more than 50 hostels.
