G Adventures launches tours in Canary Islands and Maldives

Kilimanjaro Mt.

G Adventures launches new trekking itinerary in the Canary Islands and collection of winter departures, including the Maldives, in line with new air corridors.

With the UK Government announcing new travel corridors to destinations including the Maldives and the Canary Islands, and increasing traveller demand for travel this winter, G Adventures has released a collection of exciting winter departures from December 2020, including a week long Maldives dhoni boat adventure and brand new hiking trip in Tenerife.

The new Hiking the Canary Islands tour will focus on great hiking, local food and visits to National Parks, highlighting what the popular island of Tenerife has to offer outside of beaches and all-inclusive hotels. Away from the big resorts and beaches, and suitable for hikers of all levels, the trip includes a full day walking in the north east of the island, exploring the mountainous forests of the Anaga Rural Park and visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Cristobal de la Laguna.

In addition to the new hiking tour, G Adventures has released winter departures in the Maldives, which are pegged to be popular with UK travellers following the introduction of the new air corridor. The Maldives Dhoni Explorer tour will show a different side to the Maldives, with travellers spending a week aboard a traditional dhoni boat, enjoying turquoise lagoons, isolated sandbars, traditional drumming ceremonies with locals and helping with plastic clean ups in the South Male and Felidhu atolls.

The Maldives Dhoni Explorer will join G Adventures’ new collection of winter departures, which has been collated in line with popular destinations being booked for 2021 and for travellers looking to secure a winter getaway. Ranging from winter sun options such as Zanzibar and Costa Rica, and once-in-a-lifetime challenges such as climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and camping safaris in Tanzania, the collection caters to a range of travellers tastes and activity levels.

Brian Young, managing director at G Adventures, says the new tours will allow travellers to reclaim their winter holiday while doing something different to their usual beach holiday.

“The pandemic has impacted all of us, and has made many people rethink what they want from travel. Over the past six months we’ve seen the demand for active breaks soar, with trips such as climbing Kilimanjaro being top of the search list. With the introduction of the new air corridors, it was the perfect opportunity to launch a tour which enables travellers to get active, while showing them a popular destination like the Canary Islands from a different perspective. The island has so much to offer beyond the big resorts and we’re incredibly excited to share this beautiful destination with travellers in a G Adventures way.”

“Having been unable to travel during the pandemic, many travellers are beginning to think about how their future travels can be more meaningful. These trips are a perfect example of how we can ‘retravel’ better, changing the way we think about a destination and opting for lesser visited areas that support local communities.

“Our winter departures offer travellers a bit of everything; from physically demanding climbs, to end 2020 on a literal high, to action-packed adventures in Costa Rica, where travellers zip line and trek in the forest, before unwinding on some of Costa Rica’s best beaches,” Young continued.

All of the tours have been enhanced to include G Adventures’ Travel with Confidence policy, which sees increased hygiene and safety protocols introduced to help keep travellers safe while in destination.

The December departures include:

  • Hiking the Canary Islands – Designed to show a different side to the Canary Islands, while being suitable for all fitness levels, this six day adventure sees travellers exploring mountain forests, hiking to traditional colonial towns, enjoying picnic lunches, taking jeep safaris in La Gomera and stargazing at the top of Mt Teide. Other highlights include a visit to Las Canadas del Teide National Park, which offers a unique landscape of craters, volcanoes and lava rivers and the option to spend an evening watching the stars at the top of Mt Teide, recognised as one of the best stargazing destinations due to its lack of light pollution.
  • Maldives Dhoni Explorer – See a different side to the atolls, away from the all-inclusives, and spend a week cruising around the South Male and Felidhu atolls aboard a traditional dhoni boat. Travellers will mingle with locals, enjoy a traditional drumming performance and visit Bodu Moro Island, which is home to idyllic uninhabited beaches. To help support this beautiful destination, the group will also participate in plastic clean-ups on local beaches with the G Adventures-supported Maldives Plastic Program, which helps protect the ocean from plastic waste.
  • Costa Rica Quest – Guided night walks in the jungle, ziplining in the cloud forest, horseback riding in the hills, kayaking through mangroves and snorkeling in the Pacific – these are just a few of the highlights travellers will enjoy on this nine day adventure in Costa Rica. Journeying from San Jose, the group will visit the G Adventures-supported Mi Cafecito Community Coffee Plantation project, which supports the local community, before unwinding in natural hot springs in La Fortuna. In Monteverde, days are spent being active in the forest while in coastal Quepos, travellers can visit the Manuel Antonio National Park, learn to salsa and enjoy the ocean vibes.
  • Kilimanjaro – Machame Route & Zanzibar Adventure – End 2020 on a high – 5,895 metres high to be exact, at the top of Africa’s highest peak. This 12-day adventure sees travellers taking on the Machame Route to climb Mt Kilimanjaro before heading over to tranquil Zanzibar for some well deserved rest and winter sunshine.
  • Tanzania Camping Safari – Ideal for wildlife lovers, this six-day camping adventure is endorsed by world-renowned ethologist, Dr. Jane Goodall, and offers travellers the opportunity to see some of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife out on the savannah. Visiting the Lake Manyara and the Serengeti National Parks, travellers will be spoilt for choice with daily safari drives where they can spot lions, rhino, elephants and buffalo.
