Germania successfully recruits new cabin crew via social media campaign

Germania now reaches the majority of potential cabin crew applicants via Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.

BERLIN – Germania has successfully appealed for new cabin crew with an offer of jobs in the sky. Thanks to its social media campaign #CareerCheck, the airline with the green and white livery has been able to reach out to a huge number of potential candidates, encouraging them to apply for positions as cabin crew. An initial request on Facebook, inviting applicants to an introductory day in Berlin and Rostock, resulted in an impressive response rate.

“We are aware that we need to communicate using a number of different channels with our future employees,” Markus Alwast, Director of Inflight and Guest Experience, said as he explained the use of social media channels. “We are moving on from traditional employment procedures, and are holding introductory days so that we can tackle any concerns on the spot and experience the candidates’ abilities at first hand.”

Germania now reaches the majority of potential cabin crew applicants via Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. Using regular posts, the airline keeps followers informed about daily life working on board its aircraft. Using the hashtag #GermaniaCrew, colleagues share an extensive range of pictures, anecdotes and videos about their training and their working life in the skies. And by allowing a further insider’s view at #BehindtheScenes, Germania wants to present a realistic impression of the varied and rewarding work. The airline also announces any job opportunities at their website.

Last year, 626 cabin crew were working on board Germania’s aircraft, 72% of whom were female, and 28% male. In the course of over 80,000 flight hours, more than a million sandwiches and hot meals, and 130,000 litres of tomato juice, were served, while safety was maintained and seamless flight operations were ensured. The average time for which Germania’s cabin crew are employed lies between three and 15 years. Twenty-nine nationalities are represented and staff are located at crew bases in six different countries.

Germania will continue to announce, and update about, positions in aviation and job opportunities in various departments of the company as they become available.
