Holidaypirates sees staycation boom

The pandemic has changed the way consumers get inspiration, and search, for their holidays.

Online deals platform holidaypirates.com has seen domestic business double since 2019. Before the pandemic domestic trips accounted for around 20 per cent of overall business. This grew to around 40 per cent in the first quarter of 2021.

Phil Salcedo, Head of Market UK and North America, HolidayPirates, commented: “Consumers have traditionally used online platforms to look for good deals, and cheap flights, abroad. Before the pandemic domestic tourism pricing was heavily influenced by availability in peak family-holiday periods and offers coming from hotels keen to improve occupancy on certain days of the week. These didn’t have extensive exposure on deals sites.

“The pandemic has changed the way consumers get inspiration, and search, for their holidays. At the moment, staycations are taking the place of many overseas holidays. This means people are using the platforms they would normally have used for deals abroad, to secure a good deal on a holiday at home. The good news for the public is that there are still plenty of deals available for the summer holidays.”
