Average income for full-time hosted agents in 2019 was $64,377, and $59,976 for their independent peers.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The results of Host Agency Reviews’ (HAR) 2020 Income Survey are steadily landing on the blog. Preliminary income data were recently published in two reports, “The Hosted Travel Agent Income Report, 2020,” and “The Independent Travel Agent Report, 2020.”

This was the first year HAR garnered enough data to publish a report dedicated to independent agents with their own accreditation.

Here’s a few takeaways from our first two segments:

  • Average income for full-time hosted agents in 2019 was $64,377, and $59,976 for their independent peers.
  • 72% of hosted agents worked full time, compared to 76% among independent agents.
  • 16% of hosted agents and 17% of independent agents earned over 100K in 2019.

The reports take a deep dive into travel agent income trends, looking at income, industry engagement, work habits and more.

Of the reports, HAR’s founder Stephanie Lee said, “The data reflect pre-COVID income trends. Specifically for hosted agents, average income has increased steadily, year over year. These reports mark a critical turning point, not only gauging the travel agent industry’s robust pre-pandemic health but also offering an important milestone to mark the industry’s eventual recovery.”

With diverse types of travel agents responding to the survey, HAR will also be publishing income results for travel agent employees, new agents in addition to publishing a travel agent demographic report that will examine four travel agent categories (hosted travel agents, independent travel agents, franchisees, and travel agent employees).

HAR met participation thresholds with the help of industry friends, including ASTA (American Society of Travel Advisors), Travel Leaders Network, Ensembe Travel Group, CCRA, KHM Travel Group, Destination Wedding University, Nexion Travel Group, Gifted Travel Network, Travel Planners International, Travel Quest Network, and Uniglobe Travel Center
