Hotelbed’s Matias Elisavetsky joins world-first ground and sea transportation group Bookaway

As Chief Commercial Officer, Matias is responsible for overseeing Bookaway’s business development, strategies, and global operations as it plans to expand further in the USA, China, and Latin America – working with transport suppliers around the world to bring operations online and reach even more customers.

Transportation booking platform Bookaway has appointed its first Chief Commercial Officer, following the global launch of the Bookaway Group last month (July 2021).

Matias Elisavetsky joins Bookaway in line with the group’s mission to modernise the ground and sea transportation industry by supporting local, independent transport suppliers around the world to bring their operations online .

Formerly Director of Sourcing at Hotelbeds, Matias brings just over 16 years of global experience in commercial strategy in the travel and tourism industries, managing client relationships and driving new contracts.

As Chief Commercial Officer, Matias is responsible for overseeing Bookaway’s business development, strategies, and global operations as it plans to expand further in the USA, China, and Latin America – working with transport suppliers around the world to bring operations online and reach even more customers.

Elisavetsky said: “After a challenging year for the travel industry, I’m delighted to join Bookaway at such a pivotal time to support its journey. Thanks to Bookaway’s partnerships and collaboration with similar, successful businesses, the group now offers more than 22,000 transfers in over 60 countries around the world. My goal is to expand this further, to help travellers reach every corner of the world and ensure they have the best possible experience, while helping operators grow together.”

The Bookaway Group connects travellers with local suppliers worldwide, expanding customer networks and creating a more positive experience for those exploring new corners of the world. Backed with $46 million investor funding, the group formed in the midst of the global pandemic to unite likeminded operators in the face of adversity.

By supporting suppliers around the world and improving the travel experience, the Bookaway Group is working as one to better the travel industry. Leading suppliers Getbybus, offering tens of thousands of routes around the Balkans and Western Europe, and 12Go, providing the largest network of local transport options around Southeast Asia, are the first to join the group,

Noam Toister, CEO of Bookaway, said: “Mattias’ role is crucial for the growth of the Bookaway Group, uniting more suppliers who share in our mission and supporting operators of all sizes, especially local ones, who have been hit hard by Covid-19.

“Developing countries that rely on tourism have been at risk due to offline operations, particularly those with less advanced infrastructures. The Bookaway Group champions conscious travel and we are committed to bringing even more suppliers online so customers can support local business.”

Mattias spent just over 11 years at Tourico Holidays, where he became Executive Vice President of Global Product Development, securing industry-leading contracts with tourism service vendors before the business was acquired by Hotelbeds in 2017.

Matias’ vast travel experience is key to Bookaway’s diverse global team and customer base – operating across four continents with 22 different supported languages. Matias earned his Bachelor of Arts in Geography and History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Having built an extensive network, from Europe to South America, Matias is a confident and engaging speaker, fluent in Spanish, Hebrew, Portuguese, and English.
