How the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait is changing travel

The Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait, which is headed by Dr. Abdulla Al Humaidi, has launched (and is continuing to launch) a range of ambitious projects via Kuwaiti European Holdings Group.

Travel and tourism are now back on the radar for many as countries begin to ease their COVID-19 travel restrictions. One prominent family in particular, the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait, is very much looking forward to the post-COVID travel era as it seeks to set a new standard in luxury international tourist destinations, especially in the entertainment and hotels sector.

The Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait, which is headed by Dr. Abdulla Al Humaidi, has launched (and is continuing to launch) a range of ambitious projects via Kuwaiti European Holdings Group. The group is the family’s international investment arm, and it currently has operations in several countries including the United Kingdom (UK), Ireland, and Egypt.

About the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait
The Al Humaidi Family is prominent in Kuwait. The family’s de facto “head”, Abdulla Al Humaidi, is an entrepreneur known for establishing Kuwaiti European Holding (KEH) Group in 2008. Over the years, Al Humaidi has acted as a CEO, Chairman, and Vice-Chairman of several successful companies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. More recently, however, Al Humaidi and the wider Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait have become known for their highly ambitious, and in many ways unbelievable, projects in the real estate, hotels, and entertainment industries.

In addition to being known for leading KEH Group, the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait is known for its connection to the English professional football club Ebbsfleet United. Abdulla Al Humaidi is the owner of the club, and he is credited with changing its fortunes over the years thanks to a series of sensible changes and investments.

Throughout his career, Dr. Abdulla Al Humaidi has found unrivaled success due to his ability to stay focused on and ahead of key entrepreneurial trends. Indeed, the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait in general is known for its business prowess. It has been active since the 1940s and has built one of the country’s most successful business profiles, and the family is working extensively to expand this overseas through KEH Group.

Prioritizing international growth
The biggest focus of the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait right now is the desire to shake things up in the sphere of international travel.

The family is known for rapidly growing its business operations and taking them beyond Kuwait via KEH Group, and this can be seen through a rapidly growing portfolio of huge, mind-bendingly ambitious projects in the areas of real estate, entertainment, and hospitality, each more ambitious and awe-inspiring than the last. In many ways, the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait is achieving things that many would consider impossible.

The best way to demonstrate the brilliant ambitions of the Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait is to look at two of KEH Group’s current projects: ‘The London Resort’ in London, England and ‘Aqueous’, a waterpark development in Egypt near to the Red Sea.

The Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait’s London Resort
The Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait’s KEH Group has said that their ‘London Resort’ will be bigger and better than anything that’s ever been seen before in the United Kingdom. In fact, KEH Group reckons that once the ambitious project is complete, it will be unlike anything else in the world.

The resort will be built on a 535-acre site in Kent, 17 minutes away from Central London via public transport links. The resort will reportedly cost around US$3.6 billion to build and will consist of six individual theme parks and rides, over 3,500 hotel rooms, lots of shopping experiences, live entertainment, video gaming zones, and more. Abdula Al Humaidi of the prominent Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait has expressed that the resort will operate on a similar level to other major parks like Disneyland Paris in France and Universal Studios in the United States.

When construction of the resort is finalized—according to current estimates, this could be as early as 2024—it will consist of over 460 hectares of guest-accessible space. This will make it twice as large as the size of the UK’s current leading theme park and entertainment venue, Thorpe Park Resort. KEH Group plans to partner with entertainment companies including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Paramount Pictures, among others.

In addition to rides and attractions, the London Resort will boast a waterpark, a business and conference center, and an ‘eSports’ facility for competitive gaming.

"We are creating a first-class theme park. A destination that maximizes all the new, immersive, and interactive technologies and experiences in the world,” PY Gerbeau, chief executive of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) said in a press statement. “But we won’t just be creating a world-class leisure destination, it will also be one of the most sustainable theme parks on the planet,” he added.

The Aqueous Resort in Egypt
Another major project of KEH Group is the Aqueous Resort in Egypt. This is a luxury destination to attract both tourists and residents alike and aims to boost the Al Humaidi Family’s image for spearheading and deploying quality building projects and improving KEH Group’s expertise in real estate.

Spread out over 200,000 square meters, KEH Group’s plans for the resort include several buildings that will blend residential and commercial spaces with the natural beauty of the region. It will also include a range of high-tech and modern amenities.
At the core of the Aqueous Resort will be several interconnected swimming pools. According to the KEH Group, these will be designed to give the outdoor landscape a natural flow. Dotted around these pools are several structures housing hotel rooms and amenities and a sweeping green space with relaxation areas.

KEH Group says that the Aqueous Resort will be close to a private beach where guests will be able to access the Red Sea’s waters without the problem of overcrowding. A range of excursions and activities will be available to guests from here, including diving and wildlife tours. Beyond natural attractions, guests will also be able to access a range of tourist sites.

Building sustainable venues
Both the London Resort and the Aqueous Resort will have sustainability front-and-center. This is because part of the KEH Group’s overarching mission is to do more to fight climate change.

At the London Resort, several efforts have been made to ensure that the park will have a long-term net positive impact on the surrounding area. KEH Group says that this will be achieved by creating protective wildlife refuges that will help to sustain the area’s biodiversity and protect existing wildlife populations. The London Resort will also include lots of green spaces that will be accessible to the public, widening access to the area’s natural beauty.

At Aqueous Resort, KEH Group has taken great care to ensure that the construction project doesn’t negatively impact the local geography or the natural beauty of the area. The resort also incorporates design elements that help to improve the natural area, provide a home to wildlife, and improve the social and economic prospects of residents.

The Al Humaidi Family of Kuwait is changing travel for the better
For KEH Group, both the London Resort and the Aqueous Resort will be major milestones and could change the face of post-COVID travel forever. In the case of the London Resort, it will be the first European development of its kind to be built from the ground-up since Disneyland Paris in 1992. In the case of the Aqueous Resort, it will help bring tourism back to Egypt, a country that has seen serious economic turmoil because of the pandemic’s impact on travel.

As travel is now starting to pick back up as lockdowns have ended for many countries around the world, the London Resort and Aqueous Resort are undoubtedly giving travelers some much-needed hope and excitement for the future. Still, though, there’s going to be a bit of the wait as neither of the two resorts has been built yet; the London Resort is still in the planning stage and the Aqueous Resort has only recently entered stage two of its development plans.
