Hurtigruten introduces risk-free bookings

Allowing guests to change their bookings to any future expedition cruise, Hurtigruten is encouraging guests to continue traveling.

SEATTLE, WA – Hurtigruten has announced several policy changes in light of the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. “In the current situation, it is important for us to ensure our guests receive timely and accurate information, as well as necessary flexibility,” says Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam. “We want to make sure our guests can explore with confidence.”

Since the beginning of the outbreak, Hurtigruten has taken a wide range of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, and ensure the health and safety of all guests, crew, and staff.

These measures have been made possible thanks to the small size of Hurtigruten’s ships, combined with the professionalism, dedication, and skills of their teams of medical experts, industrial hygienists, and hard-working colleagues both on board and ashore, currently overseeing the situation.

Hurtigruten has been following the advice of expert authorities including the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Norwegian Institute for Public Health (FHI), and Cruise Line International Association (CLIA), as well as other government agencies and local health authorities in the areas it operates, since the outbreak began.

To ensure the flexibility and comfort of already booked guests, Hurtigruten has introduced a new flexible and risk-free rebooking policy:

  • Guests already booked on cruises departing March 12 – June 30, 2020, may rebook to any future Hurtigruten expedition cruise or classic Norwegian coastal cruise, departing between July 1, 2020 – July 1, 2021, without any cancellation penalties.
  • If guests choose this option, they will receive a Hurtigruten Future Cruise Credit in the amount of their cancelled booking’s value (including Hurtigruten-booked extras such as flights, pre- or post-land adventures, or any excursions), plus an additional 10% discount for a future cruise. The credit and discount are available for a cruise departing between July 1, 2020 – July 1, 2021.
  • The Hurtigruten Future Cruise Credit is combinable with all other offers and promotions available at the time the new booking is created. Existing promotions on the canceled booking will not apply to the future booking.
  • Hurtigruten is also offering a reduced $500 deposit for new bookings, valid for all new bookings made between March 1 – April 30, 2020. And, guests who book during this same time period, will also be able to rebook to a future cruise with no cancellation penalty, until 30 days prior to departure.

“We’ve been operating for more than 126 years and we’ve learned from our past experiences in challenging situations,” says Skjeldam. “We are working tirelessly with all relevant authorities and experts to ensure that all of our guests can enjoy their upcoming Hurtigruten adventure.”
