Iberia returns to Budapest next summer

Budapest Airport’s CCO, Kam Jandu (left), welcomed Iberia’s inaugural flight from Madrid in June 2015. Having now confirmed a return of the seasonal service for a third year, Spain’s national carrier has announced enhanced capacity to commence 8 April 2017.

Set to commence as a twice-weekly service from 8 April 2017, Iberia’s link to the Spanish capital city will increase to a daily service during the peak season, offering a highly competitive service to the national carrier’s hub and onward connections.

Budapest Airport has announced further development in its continuous growth and progression with the welcome return of Iberia next summer, with an expanded flying programme. Following the success of the airline’s seasonal service to Madrid this year, Spain’s largest carrier (according to week commencing 24 November 2016) will resume the operation two months earlier in 2017, and with enhanced capacity, adding more than 6,600 seats to the Hungarian gateway’s seasonal schedule.

Set to commence as a twice-weekly service from 8 April 2017, Iberia’s link to the Spanish capital city will increase to a daily service during the peak season, offering a highly competitive service to the national carrier’s hub and onward connections. Reducing capacity to three-times weekly in September, the 1,977-kilometre sector will be served using the airline’s fleet of A320s and A321s, until the winter suspension of the route, having operated 27% more flights year-on year.

Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport comments: “The team works hard to enrich proven successful routes, so we’re more than happy to announce Iberia’s confirmed extended season and enhanced capacity on this vital route. The new and improved schedule boosts the choice for our customers during the summer season, providing essential onward connections to numerous Spanish resort destinations, while notably adding to our South and North American links within the IAG portfolio and oneworld alliance. Further growth looks promising, I have no doubt Iberia’s additional seats will be filled, and we look forward to targeting a year-round opportunity with our airline partner.”
