Indie Campers serves over 100,000 travelers in 2021

Domestic travel continues to dominate the campervan rental industry as another year of COVID impacts all sectors within. Indie Campers success in 2021 paves the way for its enterprising expansion plan for 2022.

Los Angeles – 2021’s prevailing growth substantiates the traveler enthusiast’s passion for independent and self-sufficient holidays as it continues to grow another year. Overall, Indie Campers served 150% more nights compared to 2020. The company believes a major contributing factor to this rise in popularity for off-grid travel is the surge of freedom, flexibility, and autonomy, among other factors like work flexibility and travel restrictions, merged to spawn a blossoming movement of conversion vans, recreational vehicles, and camping holidays.

Based on figures collected in 2021, over 60% of the time, travelers chose to pick up a van in their own country. This was seen across their most popular pickup centers, such as Barcelona and Edinburgh, both of which had over 70% of domestic pickups, and Berlin, where over 90% of customers were local.

To cater to the rise in demand and growing trend of outdoor and local camping holidays across the globe, the company took initiative and launched its US market in Los Angeles, making them a trans-continental campervan rental company, providing services to over 100,000 travelers across all locations in 15 countries.

2022 will also see Indie Campers further expand their fleet by 50% in an attempt to keep up with the growing demand, as domestic and camping holidays are expected to keep booming. “By the end of 2022, we will further solidify our position as market leaders in Europe and fortify our operations in the US, preparing the terrain for an aggressive expansion. We have a young team, full of talent and potential and I deeply believe in the power of our loyal customers” affirms Hugo Oliveira, Founder, and CEO of Indie Campers.

In parallel and as a result of the recent exponential growth, Indie Campers enabled private and professional campervan owners to rent out their campervans on the Indie Campers platform to meet the high demand for local road travel. The Indie Campers Marketplace, along with its pickup locations, extends its reach to over 700 locations across the European continent.

Furthermore, more than 80% of Indie Campers’ travelers indicated they would be interested in continuing their road trip adventures for longer after renting with them. The company saw an opportunity and opened the doors of their RV sales platform to enable users to seamlessly purchase RVs through a digital experience. Hugo Oliveira expresses that “the addition of a motorhome resale platform to our business model is a key step towards the realization of the company's present and future vision of becoming the one-stop-shop for the world of road trips”.
