Getting the certificate required thorough documentation from the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre regarding safety management, measures and maintenance.

Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre is the first event organiser in Finland to receive a GOLD Excellent level SHORE safety certificate. The certificate verifies first-class safety practices and risk management both at the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre and at the Holiday Inn Helsinki – Expo hotel that it owns.

The name of the certificate SHORE is formed from the words Safe, Hospitality, Office, Retail and Exhibitions. The SHORE certificate is awarded to operators who provably have demonstrated compliance with international risk and safety standards and industry best practices. The certificate is issued by the international, independent risk assessment expert SAFE Asset Group.

"As an organisation, Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre is very solution-oriented, challenges are tackled quickly. Safety practices and risk management are exceptionally well documented. It has been great to see how convincingly Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre builds a safe event environment that meets international criteria for its customers," says Erik Engstrand, CEO of SAFE Asset group.

"We want to offer all our customers a high-quality and safe event experience. The SHORE certificate verifies our thorough work in risk management and in building a responsible business. In the current world situation, reliability and safety is a significant competitive advantage for an event house," says Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre CEO Anni Vepsäläinen.

Getting the certificate required thorough documentation from the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre regarding safety management, measures and maintenance. The audit assessed six central areas: risk management and management system, asset protection, questions regarding visitors and guest exhibition organizers, security and crisis management and securing the continuity of business operations. During the two-day audit in June, safety practices were tested and key personnel responsible for safety were interviewed.

The SHORE certificate received by the Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre also covers the operations of the Holiday Inn Helsinki – Expo hotel. Such an extensive SHORE certification is the only one of its kind in the world. Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre owns the hotel property connected to its premises, which is operated by Scandic Hotels Oy, under the license of IHG Hotels Limited.

In the spring of 2021, Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre also received a COVID 19 certificate as the first Nordic event house in recognition of exemplary work for COVID 19 safety. The Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre also has an ISO 9001:2015 certificate for its management system and an ISO 14001:2015 environmental certificate.
