Italy revealed as the top location to get hitched in Europe

Experts reveal the top destinations couples want to say “I do”, according to Google.

With the rise of Britons getting engaged across the country, we’ve seen an increase of couples using Google to plan their dream wedding. However, instead of looking locally, experts have shared how Britons are choosing to say “I do” outside of the UK.

According to findings made by the international wedding provider, The Wedding Travel Company, Italy is the number one destination where soon to be newlyweds across the world want to get married in 2021 and in 2022. Other European destinations, which are on the trending wedding venue list, are based in Greece, France, Cyprus and Spain, as couples are looking for Mediterranean wedding packages, beach weddings or venues which have warmer weather and embrace the couple's passion for travel, food and culture.

They found out why these countries are highly searched for by couples planning to get married in 2021 and 2022. From looking at their findings, we’ve seen that the majority of couples want to get hitched in Italy, Greece and Cyprus, as these are some of the destinations which are the most Googled by British, Italian, French, Croatian, Maltese, Portuguese and Greek people. However, other findings have revealed that most European countries have looked out of curiosity for the cost of getting married in the UK, which suggests they’re trying to find the best-value location for their dream wedding and honeymoon destination.

Greek, Croatian, and Portuguese couples searched for similar wedding destinations, as the search volumes show that these people are keen to walk down the aisle in Italy, Greece, and Cyprus.

Other findings from the French and Maltese Google searches reveal that these countries are looking to celebrate their love in a romantic location in other parts of Europe and the UK. From these search volumes, we can see that these couples want to experience a different wedding day that offers a different cultural experience and a sense of adventure.

Co-founder of The Wedding Travel Company, Luke Nathan commented: "The wedding backlog in the UK has made a massive difference in how couples are planning their weddings as they're unable to secure their dream wedding in the UK. Through these findings, we've discovered that couples are keen to travel and get married abroad as it's much affordable and it can offer them a different experience which they may not have been able to have in the UK. Through these search volumes, we've been able to pinpoint where couples wish to get married in Europe. It's interesting to see that Italy is the most desirable location to get hitched abroad as we've seen an increase of customers enquiring to get married in this location along with Cyprus, Santorini and other parts of Greece."
