Jamaica Minister of Tourism commends US$200m. investment in Grupo Piñero’s Bahia Resorts

Minister of Tourism in Jamaica, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, in discussion with Christopher Paniagua, President of Banco Popular Dominicano, one of the largest Banks in the Dominican Republic; Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor and Strategist, Ministry of Tourism; Encarna Piñero, CEO of Grupo Piñero, owners of Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts; and Gema Sacristán, Chief Investment Officer of IDB Invest, the private sector arm of Inter-American Development Bank. They were at the official press briefing at the Casa de América in Madrid, Spain, to announce a strategic alliance between international tourism giant Grupo Piñero, IDB Invest, and Banco Popular Dominicano to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth through tourism in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. During the discussion, Bartlett commended the parties involved on the agreement which will result in a $200 million investment in Grupo Piñero’s Bahia resorts in both countries. The Bahia Principe resort in St. Ann is Jamaica's largest hotel. The Dominican Republic's President, His Excellency Luis Abinader, also attended the event.
