LATAM Airlines Group announced that in its ongoing quest to offer innovative solutions in operational safety and hygiene, and according to the recommendations of international authorities, it has updated its Covid-19 protocols: As of March 1, LATAM will not allow passengers using valved masks (any model), mouth guards, fabric scarves, or bandanas on any of its flights due to their proven low efficiency in filtering viruses and bacteria. Passengers who do not comply with these measures will not be allowed to board. It is also recommended that passengers carry spare masks on long distance flights and follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the use and durability of their masks.
In February, a pilot initiative to install dedicated antibacterial and antiviral surfaces on the tables located at each seat was implemented in one of LATAM's aircrafts based in Chile. This test case ensured complete elimination of viruses and bacteria and showed a proven resistance despite repeated cleanings and use by passengers. As a way of supporting the safe return of domestic and international travel, LATAM has signed agreements with leading testing laboratories throughout the continent, offering access to PCR tests for the detection of COVID-19. This service will be offered to LATAM passengers at a discounted price.
