Marriott International collaborates with Charleston-based hotel management company on new boutique property hotel

The 50-room hotel is set to open in Charleston’s historic Ansonborough neighborhood this spring.

CHARLESTON – Set to open in late spring in Charleston, S.C., Hotel Bella Grace is a new, custom designed 50-room boutique hotel located next to the circa 1830 Historic Delaney House, which will serve as the hotel’s breakfast room and meeting space. Guest rooms feature European-style built-in kitchens, state of the art entertainment technology with streaming capability and engaging interior design and décor.

Steeped in history but reimagined with progressive features and functionality, Hotel Bella Grace will be managed by Donald Semmler, founder of Local Hotel Adventures. The property is independently operated and designed, and is Marriott affiliated, participating in Marriott’s Rewards Program.

“We are grateful and somewhat amazed that a company as large as Marriott has the capacity and nimbleness to innovate with a company as small as ours,” said Semmler. "Working with Marriott gives us a scale of competency and the resources we could only imagine to have one day.”

The first independent project under Local Hotel Adventures is Andell Inn located on Kiawah Island, S.C. Since its opening in March of 2014, Andell Inn has become one of Marriott’s highest ranking guest satisfaction hotels. In 2015, Southern Living recognized Andell Inn as one of the “Best New Hotels in the South, and in 2016 the hotel was recognized by Art Magazine as one of Charleston's “Best Art Hotels.”

"As an executive for Marriott International, I had the opportunity to work firsthand with Bill Marriott and Ian Schrager to develop the Edition brand,” said Semmler. “Bill and Ian are extraordinary business leaders with wildly different hotel backgrounds and life experiences. With mutual respect and admiration, they combined their distinctive competencies and launched Marriott into the exciting lifestyle lodging space.”

Local Hotel Adventures follows Marriott’s signature approach to operational excellence, guest satisfaction and its “people-first culture, while also borrowing heavily from Ian’s approach that every hotel should be uniquely designed, emotionally engaging and authentically named and branded.
