Marriott Syracuse Downtown is named Best City Center Historic Hotel by Historic Hotels of America

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –  From a field of celebrated historic hotels, Marriott Syracuse Downtown has been named Best City Center Historic Hotel by Historic Hotels of America (HHA). The award was presented on Sept. 28 at a Gala Dinner at The Omni Homestead Resort (Va.) before an audience of owners, senior management, industry leaders, and representatives from the finest historic hotels around the world. Owner Ed Riley was on hand to accept the award on behalf of the hotel. This award is presented to a hotel located in a city center that bests celebrates its history in the guest experience and provides exceptional hospitality and service. It is the first time a hotel has earned this distinction as a new member.

“The entire staff of Marriott Syracuse Downtown, together with the ownership team of Hotel Syracuse Restoration, are sincerely grateful to Historic Hotels of America for this prestigious award,” said Riley of the accolade. “We are committed now, more than ever, to continue working each day as an ambassador of our community and demonstrating why our property was selected to receive the 2017 Historic Hotels of America Best City Center Historic Hotel award.”

Award recipients were selected from nominees received from historic hotels, historic preservation supporters, prior award recipients, community leaders, and leadership from HHA and Historic Hotels Worldwide (HWW). As official programs of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, HHA and HHW provide the recognition to travelers, civic leaders, and the global cultural, heritage, and historic travel market that member hotels are among the finest historic hotels across America and around the world. The Historic Hotels Annual Awards of Excellence program recognizes the pinnacle of this distinct group of nominees in a range of categories.

Marriott Syracuse Downtown, originally opened as Hotel Syracuse in 1924, rose to the top of a nomination field that included:

  • The Willard InterContinental, Washington DC (1847) Washington, DC
  • Fairmont Hotel San Francisco (1907) San Francisco, California
  • The Lancaster Hotel (1926) Houston, Texas
  • Mayflower Park Hotel (1927) Seattle, Washington
  • The Edgewater (1948) Madison, Wisconsin
