Messukeskus Helsinki selected Restel Ltd. as its hotel partner

Restel Ltd. will continue as the hotel partner of Messukeskus Helsinki for the following ten-year period. The Holiday Inn Helsinki – Messukeskus will be revamped in a renovation during 2018. The premises and service concept of the hotel will be completely revamped to allow the hotel to better meet the needs of customers participating in different events.

“The hotel is an important part of our customers’ event experience. In cooperation with Restel, we will revamp the Holiday Inn Helsinki – Messukeskus, aiming to make it the best event hotel in Northern Europe,” says Anni Vepsalainen, Managing Director of Messukeskus Helsinki, Expo and Convention Centre.

The renovation will cover the entire building from hotel rooms to service points and from technology to interior design. The service concept will be modified at the same time to better meet the needs of customers participating in different event. The capacity will remain unchanged. The hotel has 245 double rooms. The new service concept also includes the Open Lobby service, which will turn the hotel lobby into an interesting common area that offers pleasant space for working, relaxing and eating not only for the hotel guests but also for all city residents.

“We have a unique environment. More than a hundred different fairs and exhibitions and 1,500 meetings and congresses are held annually at Messukeskus. We want to make events and meetings part of our hotel guests’ service experience. In addition to business travellers, our revamped hotel will provide heartwarming service particularly to families with children,” says Vepsalainen.

According to Vepsalainen, the hotel renovation and the overall positive trend in the hotel capacity in the Helsinki metropolitan area support extremely well tourism in the area and international congress marketing, which is important to Messukeskus.

“We are happy that our long cooperation with Messukeskus will continue and that we will be able to build an event hotel of the future on the basis of completely new ideas. The hotel will continue to be part of the Holiday Inn chain. In the service design, we will also be able to use the development team of the InterContinental Hotels Group and the Holiday Inn brand,” says Mikael Backman, CEO of Restel Ltd.

The Holiday Inn Helsinki – Messukeskus hotel was built in 1997. The hotel is directly connected to the exhibition halls and conference rooms of Messukeskus and has flexible connections to the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, the railway station and the city centre.

The revamped hotel will be opened at the beginning of 2019. The hotel will be closed during the renovation from 20 February 2018 to 2 January 2019.

Messukeskus Helsinki, Expo and Convention Centre promotes Finnish trade and industry by enabling profitable face-to-face contact in trade shows, congresses and other events. Exhibitions and fairs are Finland’s seventh largest media. In terms of impact, they are the most profitable, the richest in experiences and the most social of all media. More than a hundred fairs and exhibitions and over 1,500 meetings and congresses are held annually at Messukeskus. The events attract 9,300 exhibitors and over 1.3 million visitors each year.
