Milan Bergamo gets set for British Airways’ Gatwick service

Facing no direct competition on the link with London Gatwick, British Airways brings the number of London airports served from Milan Bergamo to three.

Milan Bergamo Airport yesterday welcomed British Airways’ high frequency service from London Gatwick. Becoming the only link from the south of England to the East Lombardy region of Milan the route has seen significant high-demand and already announced an increase from six times weekly to daily from December. As British Airways joins the airport’s roll call and becomes the gateway’s 20th carrier, Milan Bergamo celebrates the long-awaited inaugural flight from the UK’s largest full-service airline.

Commenting on the route, Giacomo Cattaneo, Director of Commercial Aviation, SACBO, says: “It is very encouraging to see that British Airways recognises the potential of Milan Bergamo and our proximity to both Milan and the beautiful Italian lakes of Como and Garda. This six times weekly service illustrates the appeal of Bergamo as a destination, for both leisure and business travellers, as well as the strength of the wider area to the London market as we offer over 250,000 two-way seats available to our customers from now until the end of the year.”

Facing no direct competition on the link with London Gatwick, British Airways brings the number of London airports served from Milan Bergamo to three. The UK flag carrier’s new operation complements existing services from London Southend and London Stansted, as well as adding an additional 31,000 two-way seats to the Milan Bergamo-London market between now and the end of 2019.

Adding to this, Cattaneo notes the popularity of skiing for UK customers, and Bergamo’s excellent Alpine winter offering: “Just a short distance north of the airport are the Italian Alps, which have incredible ski slopes for anyone from beginner to professional level. With an additional Saturday service from Gatwick starting in December, those travelling from the UK can truly make the most of the ski season this winter.”
