Modern mountain luxury arrives in a historic alpine resort with opening of Four Seasons Hotel Megeve

Long a see-and-be-seen retreat for Europe’s elite, Megeve is perhaps best known as a winter destination, but the summer season brings a new world of possibilities for those who love the outdoors.

The first Four Seasons mountain experience in Europe is now open in one of the most beloved resort areas in the French Alps: welcome to the new Four Seasons Hotel Megeve.

The only hotel located directly on the slopes of Mont d’Arbois, just five minutes from the charming medieval town of Megeve, Four Seasons Hotel Megeve is the newest addition to one of Europe’s most important mountain resorts. With direct access to more than 400 kilometres (277 miles) of skiing, plus the region’s only in-house Ski Valet and Ski Concierge services, Four Seasons is also inviting skiers to experience more remote runs with the new Helicopter Ski Safaris. Back near the Hotel, myriad other winter recreational pursuits are virtually at one’s doorstep, from snowboarding to sleigh rides, ice fall climbing and ice sports including hockey, skating and curling.

“We are particularly delighted to welcome our first guests at this festive time of year, when Megeve is at its most magical,” says General Manager Francois Arrighi. “In addition to special holiday menus for Christmas on December 25, we will also present a Russian Christmas dinner on January 6. Through February, there will be musical entertainments, and of course we invite our guests to enjoy our famous flocons de neige (snowflake) treats that are a speciality of the region.”

Long a see-and-be-seen retreat for Europe’s elite, Megeve is perhaps best known as a winter destination, but the summer season brings a new world of possibilities for those who love the outdoors, beginning with a few rounds at Mont d’Arbois Golf Club, adjacent to the Hotel. Other popular summer activities include hiking and mountaineering, paragliding, biking, kayaking and air tours via plane, helicopter or hot air balloon, not to mention designer shopping in town.

More reasons to plan a holiday in Megeve: Festival International Jazz a Megeve will feature internationally renowned musicians from March 30 to April 1, 2018, and Jumping International de Megeve, a show jumping festival hosted by Edmond de Rothschild, takes place each July. Also not to be missed at any time of year is the Megeve Calvary, a series of 15 chapels and oratories depicting the stations of the cross dating from the 19th century between the village centre and the Mont d’Arbois Plateau, an opportunity for a lovely walk through this designated European Sacred Mount and French Historic Monument.

Introducing a Modern Luxury Experience in a Historic Resort

Four Seasons Hotel Megeve is now home to one of the region’s most coveted gastronomic destinations, the two Michelin star Le 1920.  Here, guests are treated to the creations of Chef Julien Gatillon, who also oversees all dining outlets at the Hotel as well as several of the village’s best restaurants. Must try: Chef’s famous mille feuille de foie gras de canard et truffe noire facon opera is an exquisite creation that combines two of France’s most famous pastry styles – the mille feuille and gateau opera – in a savoury journey for the palate that includes delicate layers of duck foie gras and black truffles.

Additional on-site dining experiences include Kaito for Japanese Pan-Asian fusion cuisine outdoors or at tables or the sushi bar indoors; the club-like Bar Edmond for apres-ski wine, cocktails and bites indoors and out; and the Lobby Lounge, an ideal central meeting point serving light refreshments all day. Four Seasons Hotel Megeve also offers a Cigar Room for fine cigars and spirits, and an impressive 10,000-bottle Wine Cellar for private dinners and tastings.

When not enjoying the mountain air outdoors, guests can relax inside at the 900 square metre (9,700 square foot) Spa, the largest in the region, with six spa treatment rooms including a VIP couple’s suite sauna and steam, salon and fitness centre.  Spa Director Aurianne Hurelle particularly recommends the Sodashi Asian-European Fusion Body Massage after a strenuous day on the slopes, or the rejuvenating Swiss Perfection facial treatments.  The Spa also offers osteopathy and physiotherapy sessions on request, and a tai chi program focused on martial arts and health.

Surrounded by large outdoor terraces, Four Seasons Hotel Megeve boasts a unique indoor-outdoor swimming pool, complete with massage jets and underwater music, and an array of lounge chairs, recliners and a fireplace at the poolside.

Families will love the many ways for parents and children to spend time together, as well as Royaume des Enfants, two facilities designed just for younger guests: the fully supervised Kids for All Seasons children’s program and the exclusive Teen Zone with its own theatre area are the largest in the region.

Finally, when it’s time to turn in after days in the sun and long evenings indulging in Megeve’s sophisticated apres-ski scene, guests of Four Seasons Hotel Megeve will find chic and contemporary alpine accommodations – most with fireplace and balconies, and all with picture-perfect mountain and valley views in 55 guest rooms and suites.

Four Seasons Hotel Megeve also offers several indoor and outdoor meeting spaces for small corporate or social events.

Four Seasons Hotel Megeve is open seasonally, each winter between December 15 and April 15, and each summer from June 1 to September 30.
