Alan Fuerstman, Montage Hotels & Resorts Founder and Chief Executive Officer, announced the appointment of Jason Herthel as President and Chief Operating Officer of Montage Hotels & Resorts. Mr. Herthel, employed with Montage since 2011, will be stepping up from his most recent position as the Executive Vice President of Acquisitions, Development and Strategy to be the first President and Chief Operating Officer of the luxury hotel management company. In this new position, Herthel will continue to work closely with Fuerstman on strategic planning and the growth of the company, and will additionally have primary oversight of its key business units including Operations, Sales and Marketing, Acquisitions and Development, Legal, Residential, Golf and Pendry Hotels. Over the last year, Mr. Herthel has led the expansion of the Montage portfolio to include both Montage Kapalua Bay and The Inn at Palmetto Bluff, a Montage Resort and is largely responsible for other (yet to be announced) projects in the development pipeline. Along with Michael Fuerstman, co-Founder and Creative Director of Pendry Hotels, Herthel helped to bring the Pendry Hotels brand to life with the flagship location opening in the vibrant Gaslamp District of San Diego in 2016. Prior to joining Montage Hotels and Resorts in 2011, Mr. Herthel held the position of Senior Vice President of Project Development for Viceroy Hotel Group, based in Abu Dhabi. Mr. Herthel also worked as Principal & General Counsel for The Setai Group, where he played an instrumental role in their development of more than 1.2 million square feet of luxury residential and mixed-use hotel and resort properties in South Florida and the Caribbean. Prior to that, Mr. Herthel was an attorney with Paul Hastings, specializing in the transactional real estate and business needs of global hospitality clients. Mr. Herthel holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stanford University.
