Multiple explosions in tourism spots in Thailand

Thailand recorded 11 bomb attacks, killing 4 people and wounding 35 among them tourists. The attacks took place in different locations, mainly tourist, across the country.

Eleven bombs killing four people and wounding 35 others, including 10 tourists, exploded yesterday in numerous tourism spots in Thailand. Among the injured are British and Danish tourists, according to local press reports. The blasts went off this long weekend for Thailand to celebrate the birthday of the Thailand’s Queen Sirikit.

Many of these bombings were in southern regions of the country such as Surat Thani, Patong (where is the famous Phuket resort), Trang, Phang Nga, and Hua Hin the new popular resort near the capital Bangkok, where except from tourists there are also many Thais enjoying their holiday weekend.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of Great Britain has updated the travel warning for Thailand stating that travelling to provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla which are located near the borders with Malaysia, is advisable to avoid for fear of terrorist actions.

One bomb, from a total of four which exploded in Hua Hin, killed a woman and wounded 23 people including two British tourists. The bombs, which were placed in pots,  activated by mobile phones. So far, four people have been killed and 35 injured including foreign tourists. Local authorities informed residents to stay in their homes and avoiding crowded places. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.

Last year, about the same period of the year, a large bomb exploded in the heart of Bangkok at Erawan Shrine killing 20 people.
