New Jersey: Cape May and Long Beach Island among priciest US summer destinations

The survey compared all U.S. destinations based on the cost of lodging during the month of August 2019. Only hotels or inns rated at least 3 stars and located close to the beach or in the city centre were considered.

Two seaside resorts in New Jersey are among the most expensive summer destinations in the United States for accommodation, according to a survey by CheapHotels.org

The survey compared all U.S. destinations based on the cost of lodging during the month of August 2019. Only hotels or inns rated at least 3 stars and located close to the beach or in the city centre were considered.

With an average rate of $254 per night for the most affordable double room, Cape May ranks as the 6th most expensive destination overall in the United States. Only 10 dollars cheaper on average is Long Beach Island, which takes 7 th position.

Topping the rankings is Montauk, with an average rate of $342 per night for the least expensive double room. Martha's Vineyard, an idyllic Massachusetts island located south of Cape Cod, and Cannon Beach, a coastal city in northwest Oregon, complete the podium with average overnight rates of $284 and $265, respectively.
