Norwegian expands US network with flights to Madrid, Amsterdam and Milan

To support the continuous growth at Los Angeles International Airport, Norwegian will open its fourth American crew base with 150 cabin crewmembers during the first quarter of 2018.

NEW YORK – Norwegian, the airline awarded the World's Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline and Airline of the Year 2017 distinctions, announced it will launch four new routes from the United States to Europe: New York City/JFK and Los Angeles to Madrid, Spain; New York City/JFK to Amsterdam, the Netherlands; and Los Angeles to Milan, Italy. Norwegian will be the only airline operating year-round nonstop flights from Los Angeles to Madrid and Milan.

Norwegian now offers 61 nonstop transatlantic routes to 16 European destinations. The airline now offers nonstop year-round routes to more European destinations from both the greater New York City area and Los Angeles, respectively.

To support the continuous growth at Los Angeles International Airport, Norwegian will open its fourth American crew base with 150 cabin crewmembers during the first quarter of 2018. The airline already has four crew bases for cabin crew and pilots in the U.S. With more U.S.-based cabin crew than any other airline, Norwegian is also the only foreign airline recruiting American pilots to be based in the U.S.

"2017 has been a year of exponential growth for Norwegian in the United States. Next year, we will continue our vigorous expansion and we plan to make three of Europe's most exciting cities so much more affordable and easier to reach for American travelers. We are not slowing down our quest to provide Americans with low fares and a high-quality onboard experience. Americans have enjoyed our service so much that Norwegian was one of the world's most awarded airlines in 2017," said Bjorn Kjos, Norwegian's Chief Executive Officer.

Norwegian also announced it has acquired an additional 28 weekly slots at London Gatwick Airport from summer 2018. The take-off and landing slots, purchased from Small Planet Airlines, will allow Norwegian to plan for continued growth at Gatwick, including to the U.S. Planning work is now underway to allocate the new acquired slots, and will be announced at a later stage.

The world's fastest-growing airline launched 25 new routes from the U.S. in 2017, and has announced 11 new transatlantic routes for 2018 for a total of 67 routes – 61 of which are transatlantic. Norwegian operates one of the world's youngest fleets, and these four new routes will be operated by brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
