Acclaimed architecture firms HKS and Baskervill to create a world-class design on the Norfolk waterfront.

NORFOLK – The Pamunkey Indian Tribe announced the pairing of HKS, a firm with worldwide experience, designing some of the most iconic entertainment and hospitality projects in the United States and abroad, with Baskervill, a Virginia-based architecture firm with extensive knowledge of the Hampton Roads region. HKS and Baskervill will serve as the architecture team that will design the $500 million Norfolk Resort & Casino.

“The design team that we have assembled will create an amazing resort and casino,” said Robert Gray, Pamunkey Indian Tribe Chief. “These two companies bring the creativity, industry expertise, experience and drive to ensure that this facility will exceed the highest expectations set by the Tribe and the City of Norfolk for this project.”

HKS is a global firm of architects, designers, advisors whose work combines beauty with performance. With a staff of 1,350 people in 23 locations, they are united by their shared culture and sense of purpose. Their properties include AT&T Stadium (home to the Dallas Cowboys), which was named “Facility of the Decade” by Sports Business Journal, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles (home to the NFL Rams and Chargers), the Grand Hyatt Nashville, and the Infinity Casino and Resort in the Philippines. They also were the lead architect on the MGM National Harbor casino.

“It is an honor to be part of a project that will transform and create a positive impact for the Norfolk community,” said Luis Zapiain, Principal and Director of Hospitality at HKS. “Along with bringing our design expertise and creativity, we are equally committed to working alongside our local partners and sharing the common goal of creating a destination like no other.”

Baskervill has designed projects in Norfolk, throughout Virginia and across the country. Founded in Richmond, Virginia in 1897, Baskervill is one of the nation's oldest continually operating architectural firms. Hampton Roads residents may be most familiar with Baskervill’s design of Norfolk’s Glass Light Hotel & Gallery and the interior design of the Hilton Norfolk The Main.

“We are thrilled to be working with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe alongside our partners at HKS on this incredibly exciting project for Norfolk and Virginia. As a longstanding Virginia-based firm, we know how important an investment like this can be for our communities. We’re proud to be a part of this,” said Bob Clark, President of Baskervill.
