This year hunts for adults-only holiday sites – of which around 300 are listed – are running at almost twice the levels of last spring.
A surge in searches for adults-only holidays has been reported by Caravan Sitefinder, the UK's largest online directory of camping, glamping and holiday parks.
The trend suggests, says the company, that child-free staycations in Britain will be on the wish-list of many people choosing not to go abroad this year.
Caravan Sitefinder, used by around one million visitors each year, allows people to research and read reviews of over 6,000 parks across the UK.
This year, says the company's Michael Paul, hunts for adults-only holiday sites – of which around 300 are listed – are running at almost twice the levels of last spring.
"The rise started earlier in the year when people realised that UK holidays would probably be on the cards this summer, but that going overseas would be a no-no," he said.
"Britain, of course, provides many wonderful destinations – but for some couples, their idea of a holiday heaven is peace and quiet, free from the patter of tiny feet.
"There has been a rise in recent years in the number of parks imposing an eighteen-plus rule for stays, and they are proving extremely popular with guests.
"Some are teachers and child care professionals, and are perhaps happy not to be reminded of their day jobs when they go away for a break.
"Others include young professionals in motorhomes and campervans, and also mature couples who just want to take it easy and enjoy the birdsong instead of chirping children.
"Either way, an adults-only park enables them to stay in tranquil surroundings on the coast or in the countryside – and to enjoy uninterrupted lie-ins every morning," said Michael.
Glamping, he added, was capturing many people's imaginations for this summer with options ranging from wigwams and shepherds huts to log cabins and safari tents.
