As more than 300 guests from the airport’s carriers, concessionaires, operations and many other enterprises attended the event, Jost Lammers, CEO, Budapest Airport acknowledged the importance of such an evening: “To be able to say a personal thank you to all our partners, while also recognising outstanding contribution in delivering exceptional performance and results, is an honour and something we take great pride in doing. We couldn’t produce such robust growth and development without their endless efforts and cooperation in yet another record breaking year.”
A word from the winners:
- Best Newcomer Airline – American Airlines. Richard Muise, Director, Europe: “It is an honour to be presented with this award by Budapest Airport. There is a great working partnership between the airline and airport which has helped us to become one of the most successful airlines operating from the airport. Our first summer season of operation on the route to Philadelphia was a great success with many connecting onto our wide-range of destinations across the US, Canada and the Caribbean. The reaction from passengers for the Budapest service has been overwhelming, and the airline looks forward to returning to the airport again this summer with a daily service.”
- Best Marketing Award – airBaltic. Kriszta Kovacs, Sales Manager, Hungary: “Due to strong demand, at the start of the last summer season we up-gauged our aircraft to Budapest from a 73-seat Q400 to our modern fleet of 145-seat A220-300s. Along with making this development, as an airline we also, through extensive B2B marketing opportunities, grew the share of ticket sales via Hungarian travel agents, with it growing faster than any other distribution channel. The combination of these two factors helped traffic on the route to Riga grow by 12% last year. It’s great that these achievements have been recognised by the airport and it is a privilege to accept the Best Marketing Award for 2018 for airBaltic.”
- Highest Frequency Increase – Aeroflot. Alla Csizmadia, Station Manager, Hungary: “We have witnessed great success at Budapest in recent years. Back in 2016, we operated a twice-daily service from Moscow Sheremetyevo. During the past two years, we have grown the route to a three times daily service, while on 1 July 2019 we will add a fourth daily rotation for the peak summer season, and we would like to thank Budapest for rewarding the airline with this award. The commitment by Aeroflot shows how well the Hungarian market is performing, with our connections to key Asian destinations, including Beijing, Delhi, Seoul Incheon, Shanghai Pudong and Tokyo Narita proving very popular with Budapest-originating customers.”
