Premier Peruvian Eco-Lodge, Las Qolqas, names Luciana Martinez Angulo Resident Manager

Martinez Angulo brings over two decades of hotel operations from roles at Explora and Swissotel Lima to Ollantaytambo’s newest eco-resort.

OLLANTAYTAMBO, PERU – Las Qolqas, a newly built eco-resort & spa located in the heart of Peru’s Sacred Valley, has announced the appointment of Luciana Martinez Angulo as Resident Manager. Drawing on more than two decades of experience with the hotel industry, Martinez Angulo oversees day-to-day operations at the resort including accommodations, food and beverage, spa, retail, guest programming, vendor relations and outreach with the local community, and speaks to the Las Qolqas team’s commitment to bringing innovation, sustainability and luxury to the hospitality industry in Peru.

Martinez is no stranger to the Sacred Valley. She joined Las Qolqas following six years with the Chilean adventure travel outfit Explora, which saw her in managerial roles including as opening Manager of Operations of nearby Explora Valle Sagrado in Urquillos, Peru. She was also Head of Hotel Services at Explora’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile, and consulted independently on operations for the opening of Explora Lodge in Patagonia National Park in Chilean Patagonia.

“Martinez has seen a lot of changes in the hotel industry in the Sacred Valley and the historic gateway city of Cuzco over the years. Her experience navigating the growing travel industry in Peru and roles in hotel operations makes her a great resident manager for the property. We're excited to have someone with Luciana’s wealth of experience help take our team up a level,” Owner Herman van den Wall Bake said.

Previously, Martinez spent five years as Manager of Training with Swissotel Lima, designing and implementing training plans for various departments, including creating “Train the Trainer” workshops to ensure guest satisfaction in all areas of operations. She also did a turn as Guest Service Manager for Tambo del Inka Luxury Collection in the Sacred Valley, and headed Reception and Services for Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. She got her start in 2004 as Reception Assistant Manager at Grand Hyatt Dubai.

So often, Martinez says, hotels embrace sustainability for marketing purposes. “But here, it is authentic. Owner Herman van den Wall Bake and Executive Director Carlos Gonzalez want to work closely with local communities to preserve their culture while providing opportunities for their people to grow skills and have enriching careers in the hotel industry. I look forward to my role here at Las Qolqas and further establishing the property as a leader in the community as well as the hospitality industry.”
