Pulkovo Airport welcomed more than 758 thousand passengers over the winter holidays

During the winter holidays, the number of passengers on domestic flights grew by 8% year-on-year, international traffic increased by 5%.

During the New Year’s holidays, from December 25, 2019, to January 8, 2020, Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport welcomed 758 537 passengers, which is 7% more than in the same period of 2018-2019.

During the winter holidays, the number of passengers on domestic flights grew by 8% year-on-year, international traffic increased by 5%. The peak day for Pulkovo Airport was December 28, 2019. On this day, the airport welcomed more than 56,5 thousand passengers.

The most popular domestic destinations during the winter break were Moscow, Kaliningrad, Sochi, Novosibirsk, and Arkhangelsk. Meanwhile Minsk (Belarus), Prague (the Czech Republic), Riga (Latvia), Helsinki (Finland), and Paris (France), became the most in-demand foreign destinations in the airport’s network.

The top long-haul destination from Pulkovo Airport was Dubai (the United Arab Emirates) with both scheduled and charter service operated over the New Year’s holidays. The growth in passenger traffic between St. Petersburg and Dubai amounted to 30% compared to the same period of 2018-2019.

The leading domestic airlines in terms of passenger traffic dynamic from Pulkovo were Pobeda, Nordwind, S7 Airlines, IrAero, and Nordavia, while Finnair, Belavia, airBaltic, Emirates, and Sichuan Airlines, were the top five among the foreign carriers.

In 2019, the route network of Pulkovo Airport included 163 destinations with scheduled flights operated by 72 airlines. 

The traffic statistics for the winter holidays include the last week of the previous year and the period of the official national New Year’s holidays in Russia. This year, the national holidays lasted from January 1 to January 8, 2020, the first day of business being January 9, 2020.

Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport is the fourth airport in Russia in terms of passenger traffic. In 2019, the airport welcomed over 19 million passengers. The Northern Capital Gateway International Consortium has been the main operator of Pulkovo International Airport since 2010. The company manages the airport under a public-private partnership agreement with the city of St. Petersburg, and implements the airport reconstruction and development project. –ENDS-
