Revealed: The three most common travel problems and how to avoid them

No one wants their holiday cut short, so with this in mind, I’ve listed the 3 most common travel problems and how you can avoid them.

There’s nothing that will ruin the trip of a lifetime quicker than a debilitating injury, or if there is a problem at the airport and you can’t even get on the plane. Even if you’re intending to spend a relaxing break at the beach, the fact is that even the most laid back of holidays aren’t immune to pain and disappointment.

Whether you’ve lost your luggage at the airport, twisted your ankle getting out of the pool, found your hotel has been double-booked, or been involved in a car accident – you should consider legal help if you sustain a head injury – the last thing any of us expect, is to spend our well-deserved break in a hospital emergency room or desperately trying to save what’s left of it.

No one wants their holiday cut short, so with this in mind, I’ve listed the 3 most common travel problems and how you can avoid them.

Good luck!

Food poisoning
Getting excited about the food is what going on holiday is all about. Being able to indulge in your favorite foods, as well as trying plenty of new and exciting dishes is certainly one of the highlights. But you should be careful. The last thing you want is to spend the remainder of your break stuck in your hotel room and within running distance of the bathroom.

 ● Ensure your food is always piping hot and cooked through
 ● Only visit eateries with a good hygiene rating and positive reviews
 ● Wash your hands before you eat
 ● If the water quality is in question, then avoid any salads or ice in your drinks

If you do have food poisoning then stay hydrated and seek medical help as soon as possible. Your medical travel insurance should cover you.

Theft
There’s nothing worse than reaching for your wallet, only to find that it’s no longer in your pocket. No matter where your destination may be, theft can happen anywhere. The best thing you can do is to take steps to prevent it.

 ● Don’t flaunt your wealth. Keep cameras, phones and even jewellery out of sight – or at home!
 ● Carry a fake wallet you can hand over if you are mugged
 ● Only head out with a small amount of cash. Never carry everything you’ve brought with you.
 ● Write down the numbers of your credit/debit card providers so you can cancel your cards if you need to.
 ● Keep your belongings close!

If you are mugged, then speak to the local police. Your insurance company may ask for a police report.

Passport problems
You’re not the first person to have had their passport lost or stolen when on holiday. To avoid it happening consider the following:

 ● Know where your passport is at all times.
 ● Make several colour copies and even a digital one and keep them all separate.
 ● If you’d prefer to carry it around with you, carry one of the copies!

If you lose your passport or have it stolen, the important thing is not to panic. Head to your nearest embassy and they will be able to assist you.
